BCS Bullseyes

Tony Salinas: BCS Bullseyes

The month of November is when you need to focus very closely on teams that have a BCS Bullseye shining bright and red on their backs. While many of you will be tempted to lay points with teams in a 'must win' situation, you'll often find that favorites have big troubles consistently playing to their high late-season expectations.

*Alabama was favored last week vs. LSU and couldn't score a touchdown in regulation or overtime. They could barely make a field goal!

*Oklahoma State came a few yards away from going overtime as a big home favorite against Kansas State last week.

*Previous weekends saw other contenders fall as favorites, including Clemson at Georgia Tech, and Oklahoma inexplicably at home against Texas Tech.

Hey Oklahoma State, guess who YOU get to face on Saturday!

Here are the teams who have big fat bullseyes on their backs this week:

#2 Oklahoma State at Texas Tech (early kick on ABC)
The Cowboys are 17-point road favorites. If the Texas Tech team that no-showed at Texas last week takes the field, then this won't be a ball game. But, the Red Raiders did show vs. Oklahoma that they can be very dangerous when they move the ball and avoid turnovers. This can be a very tough place for opposing teams to play as well. Oklahoma State played with a bit of arrogance last week. They'd better not assume this is an automatic win.

#3 Alabama at Mississippi State (prime time on ESPN)
What a killer spot on the schedule this is for the Crimson Tide. After losing an extremely physical heartbreaker that was played deep into the night last week, they have to come back this week and face a fired up home team in Mississippi State. Earlier this season I would have loved the Bulldogs here enough to call for an upset. I have to say they've been a disappointment. Can they hang within that very tall Vegas spread of 18 points? Mediocre college teams often play their best games of the season against BCS contenders with bullseyes on their backs.

#4 Stanford vs. #7 Oregon (prime time on ABC)
This is Stanford's toughest test of the season by a mile. Their defense struggled badly last year against this high octane Oregon offense. The Ducks may be dealing with some injuries this year…but they aren't going to be intimidated by the Cardinal. LSU's defense HURT them in the season opener. Stanford is more of a finesse team that may have to win a shootout. Stanford is favored by 3.5 points. I'm really looking forward to this game personally because of the first quarter, first half, and second half side and total options. If my team side pick is one of my biggest plays of the day, my customers will get it too (customers only get the plays that TONY SALINAS is betting the biggest himself!).

#5 Boise State vs. TCU (midday on Versus)
Too bad this game isn't on a bigger network. But, TCU isn't a sure thing to make this a game up on the fabled blue turf in Boise. You've seen how great former TCU quarterback Andy Dalton is playing in the NFL. The Horned Frogs haven't figured out how to replace him yet. This could certainly turn into a thriller though. Boise State didn't impress on this field vs. a very disappointing Air Force team. And, they looked pretty awful in the first half last week here in Las Vegas against UNLV. That BCS bullseye on their back might be getting a little heavy.

Those are the teams I think are most vulnerable to feeling the pressure of the BCS race this week. Number one LSU is in action…but they have a virtual bye against lowly Western Kentucky of the Sun Belt. Number six Oklahoma has an actual bye. They'll get a chance to play their way back into the mix in their season finale at Oklahoma State.

Am I saying there's going to be a major upset this Saturday, with either Oklahoma State, Alabama, Stanford, or Boise State going down? There doesn't have to be for gamblers to consider the dogs. Texas Tech and Mississippi State are getting a lot of points for bowl caliber home teams. TCU hasn't been an underdog of this size in ages. And, even up-and-down Texas Tech is capable of another gem.

You'll have to sign up for my service to see if the BCS bullseye games are part of my card. You can do that Saturday morning with your credit card, or by calling 1-888-536-8880. Be sure you ask about college basketball when you call. Combination packages are available. And I've got a parlay ready to go on Friday night with South Florida-Syracuse mixed in with basketball as North Carolina plays Michigan State.

Most gamblers take the worst of it in the final weeks of the season because they can't resist those 'need to win' teams. Some years that works out for them. But, over the long haul, you'll be GETTING THE BET OF IT by fading the public teams and enjoying true value with HIGH ROLLER TONY SALINAS!
