Network Notebook: Could Kansas City/Dallas be Super Bowl Preview

KANSAS CITY AT DALLAS SUNDAY WILL HAVE A TRUE SUPER BOWL FEEL

It may not be an exact preview of this coming February's Super Bowl. But, Sunday's "Game of the Week" clash between the Kansas City Chiefs and the Dallas Cowboys should be one of the true highlights of the second half of the NFL season.

*Both teams are on the short list of Super Bowl threats in their respective conferences. Kansas City has been there all season, after routing New England on the road in Week One. Dallas has finally started playing like the NFC power they were last season.

*Both teams are relatively healthy and in good-enough form. Kansas City just beat divisional rival Denver this past Monday Night to rise to 6-2 in the AFC West. Dallas has played great since re-emphasizing Ezekiel Elliott in their offense. They moved to 4-3 after winning a big divisional game on the road at Washington last week. They're playing much better than their record would indicate the past two weeks...winning 73-29 on the scoreboard.

*Both teams have had a tendency to play shootouts this season, with effective offenses but vulnerable defenses leading to up-and-back football that entertains fans (and Over bettors). That sets up a likely thriller.

And, we can leave out the Jerry Dome in Dallas as a great stage for this kind of football. Frankly, this game could be BETTER than the upcoming Super Bowl!

Who's going to get the money?

Well, we know that Elliott will be in uniform based on late-week legal news. That puts Dallas in position to have a great outing. Of course, the fact that this might be his LAST game before a suspension also adds a sense of urgency.

The problem with loving Dallas is that this defense may not be able to stop Alex Smith and company.

*Dallas allowed 42 points to Denver in a blowout loss
*Dallas allowed 35 points to the LA Rams, blowing a big lead
*Dallas allowed 35 points to Green Bay, also falling apart late

When Dallas loses...it's because they can't stop an effective offense that knows how to move the ball around. Though, Denver apparently forgot how to do that after playing the Cowboys!

Does that make Kansas City a lock? Aren't they better than the three teams who have already knocked off the Cowboys?

Well, let's say it this way. Kansas City "at its best" is definitely better than those teams...and would definitely be positioned to win a 35-31 type shootout on this field. The problem is, they may have peaked too early. Over the last three weeks...

*Kansas City lost at home to Pittsburgh 19-13, getting outgained 439-251
*Kansas City lost at Oakland 31-30, getting outgained 505-425
*Kansas City needed to win the turnover category 5-2 vs. Denver this past Monday, because they were outgained 364-276

Kansas City was "The World Champions of September," which gets you no trophies in this league. We said earlier that the Chiefs were in "good-enough" form. That's true. If their best football is behind them, then they will be in trouble Sunday.

For now, think about the Over, though a height of 54 might be the spot where value ceases to exist. For help on the team side, hook up with WORLD CHAMPION HANDICAPPER JIM HURLEY. His exclusive TEAM HANDICAPPING approach is ideal for a challenge like this.

*His SCOUTS AND SOURCES will let him now the mindset of the Cowboys after getting the news that Elliott will be available. If he also hears that the Chiefs are about to relax with a comfortable divisional lead, Dallas might be a blockbuster "Game of the Month" or "Game of the Year" caliber release.

*His COMPUTER PROGRAMMERS will run simulations around the clock to see if the Cowboys defense can stop KC. It wouldn't be a surprise for THIS element of the approach to suggest Kansas City is a steal...leading to an "Upset of the Month" or even an "Upset of the Year" if the public drives the favorite higher through the weekend.

*His WISE GUY CONNECTIONS in Nevada and around the world will let him know how the smart money is betting, and the mistakes the dumb money is making. This could be the final vote that sways the ultimate decision.
