Dutrow Streak Continues

DUTROW STREAK CONTINUES AT AQUEDUCT

Making her stakes debut, Five Grand Girl was a last-to-first winner of the $58,800 Patty's Positive overnight stakes at Aqueduct Sunday.

Five Grand Girl ($6), the second choice in a field of five, was unhurried early as Wild News set the pace under pressure from odds-on favorite Wind Caper through fractions of 22.93 and 45.65 seconds. Five Grand Girl moved up a couple of positions while three wide approaching the stretch, and closed strongly outside to overtake the leaders inside the sixteenth pole and draw clear by two lengths. Wind Caper nosed out Wild News for second.

She ran six furlongs in 1:10.32 on a fast inner track and completed a sweep of the weekend's stakes races for jockey Jose Valdivia Jr., who won Saturday's Stymie with Goombada Guska. A daughter of Five Star Day, Five Grand Girl earned $36,000, and improved to 7-2-1 from 11 starts.

Five Grand Girl was the fifth winner in the last seven New York starters for trainer Rick Dutrow, who also sent out Purrfect Bluff to finish fourth. The hot streak also includes stakes wins by Eminent Tale and Be Bullish.

Five Grand Girl is entered back in Friday's Am Capable overnight stakes at one mile.
