Staying Patient the Key to Dance Betting Success
Kelso's Advanced Sports Betting: Staying Patient the Key to Dance Betting Success
Las Vegas sportsbooks were jam-packed with passionate college basketball bettors Thursday and Friday. What became clear very early on is that "squares" tend to have trouble dealing with frustration. They yell at the big TV screens even when they're winning! Their investments are now out of their control, and it drives them nuts. If they're losing their bets, they yell even louder.
What do they yell about? Probably the same thing most of you yell about. Even if you're a longtime student here in my College of Advanced Sports Betting and Handicapping, you probably fall prey to these tendencies.
*You yell at the referees (who really have made some very bad calls so far)
*You hell at the head coaches (who are often in over their heads)
*You yell at poor shot selection (kids don't know the percentages)
*You yell at Charles Barkley (well-deserved this year)
I even heard people yelling about whoever was making the floors so slippery on Thursday. I want you to remember my next point like it's the most important advice you'll ever get. Yelling doesn't help you pick winners! It's a sign of weakness rather than a sign of strength. If you find yourself losing your cool, step away for a bit until your head has cleared.
Is there anything dumber than yelling the whole way through a game that you ended up winning anyway? What a waste of energy. Does it help to yell about a bad beat that you lost late? Las Vegas was built on bad beat stories. Yours isn't anything special. Guess what? You'll suffer another one very soon. That's the nature of betting. You play the percentages...but even pocket aces get cracked in poker. Relatively few individual sports bets are as strong as pocket aces. Sometimes the dealer hits a screwy 21 to beat the two face cards you were dealt at the blackjack table. Don't act like the universe has a vendetta against you when your five-point favorite only wins by three...or your dog falls apart in the last two minutes.
Patience is important at all times in sports betting. But, keeping your cool is particularly important right here in the heart of the first weekend of March Madness. You have to keep your head while others are losing theirs. You have to think straight when others are betting too emotionally. You have to make smart bets, and smart passes in an environment that's designed to separate impatient people from their money.
Focusing on the basics should be very helpful. Stop worrying about the referees. Stop yelling at Charles Barkley when he insults your favorite team because he hasn't been following college basketball all season. Always go back to KELSO STURGEON'S main points of emphasis:
Playmakers and Gamebreakers
The Motivation Factor
Known Coaching Histories
Watch Games to SCOUT rather than rooting for your bet
That last point is huge in the Dance because every winner is going to play again soon! Think of how great your Round of 32 picks would be if all you did Thursday and Friday was scout the teams rather than yelling at the TV. How great should your Sweet 16 bets be after seeing all the survivors play at least twice the prior week under playoff pressure?
Let your buddies waste their time. The coursework here (in basketball and all sports) should have made you a student of the game...well, both the game of basketball and the game of sports betting. Carry yourself accordingly. Keep your composure. Yes, that three-court shot at the end of regulation by Arkansas-Little Rock was pretty amazing. Enjoy that with everybody else. Just stop shouting F-bombs every time a ref calls a touch foul.
I'm personally very excited about the games coming up this weekend. This is historically a great weekend for me because nobody has more experience handicapping NCAA Tournaments than KELSO STURGEON! I've been doing it since before many of you were born. I was picking Lew Alcindor's games at UCLA before he became Kareem Abul-Jabbar. Then Bill Walton's before he started wearing tie-dye shirts. I will keep my cool, and I will find winners for my clients.
My BEST BETS can be purchased right here at the website with your credit card. Questions about extended service and combination packages can be answered in the Vegas Sports Masters office during normal business hours at 1-800-755-2255. Remember to take care of business early during the Dance because of the morning tipoffs.
The Dean of Sports Handicapping greatly appreciates that you took time out of your busy Dance-card to read today's coursework. I will see you again Monday with a review of the first two rounds of action. Then, midweek, we'll talk about how to handicap the Sweet 16 matchups. This is the most exciting month of the year to be a sports fan and a sports bettor. I trust that you're better prepared here in 2016 than you've ever been before!
