Denver Broncos are Going All-In

Kelso's Advanced Sports Betting: Denver Broncos are Going All-In

The Denver Broncos made it very clear this week that they're going all-in this year to try to win the Super Bowl. The team was extremely impressive in a blowout of Green Bay last week. Then John Elway made some personnel decisions suggesting that the whole franchise is aware that Peyton Manning's days as an elite quarterback are probably over. It's got to happen THIS YEAR if the Elway/Manning combo are going to lift the Lombardi Trophy.

I know Manning had big numbers and a few great passes last week. That was an extreme exception compared to the rest of the season. And, it was clear that Green Bay's defense came in unprepared for the altitude and a fired up home underdog. There was a lot of national press about how rare it was for Peyton Manning to be a home underdog. Denver responded. Green Bay got arrogant!

Did you see the final numbers?

Denver won the game 29-10
Denver won total yardage 500-140 (!!!)
Denver out-passed Green Bay 340-50 (that's Manning over Rodgers!)
Denver won yards-per-play 7.9 to 3.0

It was supposed to be one of the best games of the regular season. And, Green Bay was supposed to win it. Instead, it looked the New England Patriots against a college team! The stats were more of a 42-10 type game rather than 29-10.

Personally, I think Manning is still going to be an anvil come playoff time. We've seen that in recent playoffs with him. And, there's still have a season for him to develop the kind of nagging injuries that derailed Denver last January. But...I have to admit that there are a few PLAYMAKERS AND GAMEBREAKERS on Denver's defense who could carry the team to the Super Bowl.

Forget about Manning for a second and think only about that defense. In great weather, they just held Aaron Rodgers to 50 yards passing. What's going to happen in a cold January with some wind? Who's going to travel into Denver in January and score points on this defense? (Note that Tom Brady will be playing on this field over Thanksgiving Weekend...a great time to evaluate the AFC Super Bowl picture). Even if Denver has to play at New England (or even Cincinnati) in the playoffs...this defense will only be helped by weather conditions.

The first order of business is to avoid a letdown Sunday afternoon on the road against the Indianapolis Colts. It's easy to be flat after a peak result. And, Manning sometimes loses his focus when he has to return to his old stomping grounds. Denver wasn't impressive in a tight overtime win at Cleveland not too long ago. It's far from a sure thing they'll coast Sunday.

I will tell you up front that I'm studying that Broncos/Colts game very closely. If Denver does avoid a letdown...they're a logical nominee for a very large "Game of the Year" type selection. Indianapolis is banged up, and has a short week to get ready off a Monday night overtime game. The version of the Broncos that just crushed Green Bay can name the score against the walking wounded of the Colts. I'll let paying customers know on game day if that's going to be a big one.

Down the road...I really like what I'm seeing from this amazing Denver defense. They remind me of the Seattle Seahawks just when that franchise was starting to get its swagger. Here, what used to be an offense with swagger is not a defense with swagger. That caught oddsmakers off guard in September and October. Clearly there's some room for the market to catch up based on last week's win. If management believes the time is NOW, then the Broncos will be a very serious threat in January to be sure.

Your homework this weekend...watch college and pro games with a CHAMPIONSHIP in mind. Evaluate Alabama and LSU in their head-to-head SEC meeting. Look at Green Bay/Carolina and Denver/Indianapolis as all four teams will be responding to prime time challenges last week within that quartet. What you learn this week might lead to several winners between now and the end of football.
