Pre-All Star Break Handicapping Tips
Kelso's Advanced Sports Betting: Pre-All Star Break Handicapping Tips
Major League Baseball's All-Star Break begins Monday, which means we have a few days to exploit some classic "pre-ASB" strategies that have proven the test of time. I'm not going to suggest that these approaches will win every single time they pop up this weekend. And, I obviously can't guarantee that they'll finish better than 50/50 in such a short term sample size. But, over DECADES, these continue to be relevant angles for you to consider as you handicap the last few games before the intermission.
- First, you want to TAKE any pitcher that believes he was snubbed by the selection process. You've already seen this in play this week...and it's likely to be important over the weekend. It's always great to have a high quality pitcher with THE MOTIVATION FACTOR in his back pocket. Here...knowing he can go all-out right before a respite...you will get ace caliber performance from somebody who wants to make a statement. If it happens on Sunday, you could also see that line up against an opponent that might mentally be taking an early vacation anyway. Try to find pitchers with "All-Star stats" who weren't selected...and back them at reasonable prices this weekend.
- Second, you want to FADE pitchers who WERE selected for the team. They're in obvious look-ahead spots. And, they'll naturally be susceptible to holding something back just in case they're called up on to appear under the national spotlight Tuesday. It's amazing how many truly excellent pitchers have some of their worst games ever right before the All-Star Break. If you're the type who only backs ace pitchers or passes...at least pass them this time. If you like being more aggressive, take value dogs against expensive quality that's likely to have an off-day. History has shown that aces pitch like journeymen when an All-Star game appearance is on the immediate horizon.
- Third, you want to FADE teams who are already out of the playoff mix. We've already seen teams who are playing like they're on vacation anyway the pat few weeks. Imagine how unfocused and disinterested they are when an actual vacation is looming! This generally applies to road teams. But, there are a couple of hosts out there who could fall into this trap. You always want to invest in teams who will be trying to win your bet for you. And, you definitely want to bet against teams who are just going through the motions. This works before both the MLB and NBA midseason breaks.
- Fourth...it's usually best to RIDE teams who are hot. They want to keep their great form going up until the Break. Nothing like ending a long schedule stretch on a high note...when you're already on a high note anyway. I will be looking to fade these teams NEXT week when the layoff may have killed their momentum. For this weekend, there's nothing wrong with asking hot teams to stay hot, and cold teams to stay cold.
I'm not going to reveal all of my tricks here in my College of Advanced Sports Betting and Handicapping. I have to save some things for my paying customers! You'll notice I left out any discussion of individual hitters. That's certainly going to matter to me this weekend... particularly in cases where game conditions can magnify good or bad hitting scenarios. There are also some "day before the Break" angles that may line up very nicely on Sunday.
For those of you who are do-it-yourselfers, you've learned enough today to find some great possibilities between now and Sunday Night. If you'd like some additional help, top releases can be purchased right here at this very website with your major credit card. Questions about extended service can be answered personally by one of my representatives in the office at 1-800-755-2255. This is a great weekend to check on early-bird football rates too. This summer is just flying by. (Here in Vegas, it's been so hot already we're hoping the summer flies by even faster!)
I'll be back with you again early next week. We'll have a general-themed baseball report to coincide with the All-Star Break. It will soon be time to throw more football into the mix as well. We're now just a few weeks away from the start of the NFL Preseason. There's a lot of college football buzz already too. Looks like one of the benefits of the new championship format is that it gives more teams something to talk about during the summer!
The Dean of Sports Handicapping greatly appreciates your attendance and hard work. Let's go make some money this weekend, and I'll see you again next time.
