Bad Getting Worse in NFL
Kelso’s Advanced Sports Betting:
As I was enjoying my 100-unit blowout on Indianapolis coasting to victory over Jacksonville this past Sunday, it occurred to me that I should make it a point of emphasis this week to talk about what happens to teams who LACK the required PLAYMAKERS and GAMEBREAKERS to compete.
You probably know that Jacksonville was a bad team that was also dealing with some injuries. They just didn’t have any firepower on the field at all. Garbage time points helped disguise that in the final boxscore. The Indianapolis defense is a bit soft in the best of times, and is really soft in garbage time. Jacksonville was down 30-0 at the half, and has an offense that will have significant troubles scoring right now against any NFL team motivated to shut them down.
Students in my College of Advanced Sports Betting and Handicapping need to be aware that there’s a lot of this going around! Prepare to fade the following teams unless they’re facing flat opponents who are taking dealing with a big negative in THE MOTIVATION FACTOR that week.
*Tampa Bay: bringing in defensive-minded Lovie Smith to run this team just killed the offense. You saw them struggle to move the ball at home for two weeks before that road debacle at Atlanta. The Bucs were down 35-0 at the half. One of their two TD’s in the 56-14 loss was an interception return. No offense until garbage time from this group either. Backup Sean Glennon is now the new starter. He doesn’t strike me as a guy who’s ready to be a hero on a Lovie Smith team.
*Oakland basically has no offense at all right now, with rookie quarterback Derek Carr floundering badly when he does anything besides throw swing passes for short gains. This doesn’t surprise those of us in Las Vegas. We saw that the product of Fresno State was badly outclassed by USC in last year’s Las Vegas Bowl. The Raiders have covered a couple of games because of their defense. No way the defense can hold up through the grind of a full season.
*Minnesota is in danger of joining the first three teams mentioned because their greatest weapon, Adrian Peterson, will be out of action for weeks because of off-the-field issues. Then, veteran quarterback Matt Cassel suffered a broken foot in New Orleans. That means rookie quarterback Teddy Bridewater will be running the show. Even if you’re optimistic about his future, he’s a ROOKIE playing for a team short on weaponry. Only three field goals for the Vikings in New Orleans this past Sunday, matching what Oakland did in New England.
*Jacksonville will also be starting a rookie QB this week, as Blake Bortles gets the call because there’s no reason to go 2-14 with a veteran! Maybe he’ll catch San Diego flat or fatigued this weekend. He’s going to be outmatched by most frontline defenses.
*The NY Giants did get a win this past Sunday. But, they’re on my short list of troubled teams because the transition to the West Coast offense is going to go poorly against defenses who show up! Houston was in a horrible travel situation playing a second straight road game…but on the opposite coast of the first one. You still saw poor execution and fundamentals from the Giants even while they were winning. New York is way behind “playoff caliber” right now. Even if they’re not as bad as Jacksonville or Oakland, they’re still in the class of teams that are having PLAYMAKER issues in a confusing system.
Whether you’re talking pro or college football, you want to find MISMATCHES in PLAYMAKERS and GAMEBREAKERS. That was at the heart of my 100-Unit winner on Boise State over Louisiana-Lafayette as well. You can be certain this will be a major factor in upcoming 200-unit and possibly 250-unit releases on the coming calendar. The spread between best and worst offensively is often much wider than the market realizes. Even with the NY Giants playing a good first half, those five teams I just listed were down a combined 88-23 after two quarters this past week!
