MLB Road Warriors
Kelso's Advanced Sports Betting: MLB Road Warriors
It's very early in the Major League Baseball season, so you don't want to draw too many conclusions from just one week of action. But, I did want to let followers of my Advanced College of Sports Betting know that a few teams impressed me out of the gate for the following reasons:
- They played .500 or better
- They only played on the ROAD
If a team went 4-2 playing nothing but home games against bad teams, that just doesn't mean much in the big picture. They're going to drift back to .500 or worse once the schedule balances out. If a team had a losing record playing only road games vs. top competition (which happened to the Los Angeles Angels by the way), it's not the end of the world. They'll have time to make up for that in easier games...and they'll make some adjustments here or there to fix anything that needs fixing.
But...teams who played well against challenging schedules...THEY deserve your attention. Here's a full list of teams who were at .500 or better through Sunday's action playing nothing but road games.
BOSTON 4-2 (at NY Yankees and Toronto)
Sure, the Yankees are missing some key players. But, Toronto was supposed to be the next big thing in the AL East, and Boston spanked them in two out of three tries. There's a lot of enthusiasm about this new collection of Red Sox talent. Maybe they won't be as good as they looked this past week. But early indications suggest they'll win more than the 83-84 games that the market was projecting before the season began.
ST. LOUIS 3-3 (at Arizona and San Francisco)
You had to be impressed with what the Cardinals did this past weekend on the road against the defending World Champions. They lit up the scoreboard, and they did it against quality pitching. It seems like people are always underestimating the Cardinals for one reason or another. Don't you make the mistake of doing that right now. I'm very interested to see how the Cardinals play against projected division winner Cincinnati this week.
KANSAS CITY 3-3 (at Chicago White Sox and Philadelphia)
A lot of sharps in the know had their eye on the Royals this season. They would have been 4-2 if they hadn't blown a late lead against the Phillies on Saturday. If they can shore up that bullpen, this team just might make a run at Detroit in the AL Central standings (another team with bullpen issues). You might think it odd to be enthusiastic about a .500 start. In context, this was the mark of a team that bears watching.
CLEVELAND 3-3 (at Toronto and Tampa Bay)
Wow...starting at Toronto and Tampa Bay could have been a disaster. Instead, the Tribe held their own in very rough waters. Great sign for a team that made some important moves in the offseason. Can they get the job done at the back of their rotation? Look for value spots when their best guys are on the mound.
We'll have a lot to talk about through the Spring and Summer in terms of advanced principals for Major League Baseball handicapping. I'll be alternating between MLB and NBA through the coming weeks now that college basketball is over. Much of what works in this sport involves finding "clues" being provided by teams, offenses, pitchers, and even management about win potential through the season. Be sure you're watching a lot of games and reading all the boxscores!
If you'd like some help finding the best plays on the board each night, you can purchase my top plays here at this very website with your major credit card. I have a few VERY BIG plays planned through the week in baseball and pro basketball. It's easy to plan ahead in both sports because the probable pitching matchups are known in MLB, while what's at stake playoff-wise is known over these last few days of the NBA regular season.
See you again later this week to talk more NBA. We're about to embark on one of my favorite periods of the annual sports calendar because Triple Crown horse racing will soon be joining America's Pastime on the diamonds and the always exciting NBA playoffs. It's a great time to be a sports fan, a sports handicapper, and a sports bettor. Properly applying my Advanced Principals of Sports Betting and Handicapping will make it all more enjoyable!
