  • Beware Of College Teams That "Have" To Win - NFL Bettors Need To Study Sunday Injury Reports

By Kelso Sturgeon

This is a true thinking weekend for football bettors. Let's start the process by reminding handicappers that college teams that "have" to win do not "have" to win and that to ignore NFL injury reports is to invite getting ambushed. It is "think" and "pay attention" time.

In the colleges several teams-all in the running for a trip to the BCS championship game-that are in the "have" to win mode. Top-ranked Kansas State (10) is a 12 ½-point favorite at Baylor (4-5), number 2-ranked Oregon (10-0) is a 20 ½-point home favorite over Stanford (8-2) and number 3-ranked Notre Dame (10-0) is a 24-point home favorite over Wake Forest (5-5). The top three teams in the BCS standings need to keep winning to have a chance to play for the championship, and there could be no greater motivation to get it done.

Kansas State, Oregon and Notre Dame can all be tested in these games and maybe even lose. Baylor can put up the points, Stanford has already beaten Southern California and Oregon State. As for Wake Forest, the Demon Deacons are certainly outmanned but it also must be kept in mind the Irish play at Southern California next week. Kansas State has a bye before closing the season at home against Texas and Oregon State next week and then has to win the PAC-12 championship game.

Nothing is easy and nothing should be taken for granted. Handicap with caution and make certain the "have" to teams have the edges to win, and cover.

Other ranked teams are playing lesser opponents and do not figure to be tested Saturday and can play under wraps as they get ready for bigger games next week.

100-Unit Game Of Month Highlights Today's Menu

100-Unit College Football Game Of the Month Crushes Number Today
I have won seven straight 200-unit College Blowout Games of the Week over the past seven weeks but today is highlighted by my 100-unit College Game of the Month. As most of you know, all my 200-unit games must have (1) a 100% chance to win straight up and (2) a 90% chance to cover the number. Seven teams qualified on the first count this week but none met the second requirement-but one came very close and I am releasing it as my 100-unit College Game of the Month, looking for an easy three or four-touchdown win. Get all the cash with this knockout play for just $50, charged to your major credit card and then next week it will be right back with another 200-unit game. .

Big 12 Game Of Year Set To Get The Money Today
I am having an excellent season with my 50-unit college conference games of the year and am going for another one today-this time in the Big 12. There are four Big 12 games on the schedule today and the number is going to be in play in three of them. In the fourth game, one of the teams grades out projected to win 14-17 points above the number, and easily so. The four Big 12 games are Iowa State (5-5) at Kansas (1-9), Oklahoma (7-2) at West Virginia (5-4), Kansas State (10-0) at Baylor (4-5) and Texas Tech (7-3) at Oklahoma State (6-3) and one team in one of these games should win as my 50-unit Big 12 Conference Game of the Year. Win this one for just $50, charged to your major credit card. .

Nationally Televised Ohio State at Wisconsin Game tops 3-0 Saturday
The Saturday college football schedule is quite challenging and bettors are going to have to work overtime to cash a ticket on most of the marquee games-unless they have figured out what I have about just one of the showdown plays-Ohio State (10-) at Wisconsin (7-3). I have a very strong opinion on this game, and it is supported by the figures, and that means it will be my top Best Bets Football Investment Club, released at the 15-unit level. For the record my 15-unit Best bets play was Texas Tech (+13 ½) with its 29-24 upset of then top-ranked Alabama. Win the nationally televised Ohio State-Wisconsin game, plus two additional 10-unit best bets, for just $25, charged to your major credit card. .

College Handicapping Thoughts, Angles

  • Duke (6-4) is a 13 ½-point underdog at Georgia Tech (5-5) and both are still alive for the ACC Coastal title. Those two teams, along with Miami and North Carolina, are battling it out for the title.

  • Kent State (9-1) is a 3-point underdog at Bowling Green (7-3) in a game that will decide the MAC East title and earn a spot in the championship game. Kent is 6-0 in conference play while Bowling Green is 5-1.

  • Northwestern (7-3) is a 7-point underdog at Michigan State (5-5) and stands 9-1 against the spread (ATS) this season.

  • Cincinnati (7-2) hosts Rutgers (8-1) in a Big East game that will go a long ways toward determine the conference champion. Rutgers is 4-0 in conference play, along with Louisville, while Cincinnati is 3-1.

  • Tennessee (4-6) is a 3 ½-point underdog at arch-rival Vanderbilt (6-4) today and the "over" just might be the play in this one, since the Volunteers are a perfect 9-0 to the "over" this season, scoring an average of 37.9 points per game while giving up 37.0.

  • Kansas State (10-0) is a 12 ½-point favorite at Baylor (4-5) and stands 8-1-1 ATS this season.

  • Utah State (8-2) is a 3 ½-point favorite at Louisiana Tech (9-1) in a game that might decide the WAC championship. Both are 4-0 in conference play, while San Jose State is 4-1. Utah State is 9-0-1 ATS this season and is the only one of 120 NCAA Division I teams that has a 100% cover record this season.

  • Southern Miss (0-10) is the only winless team in Division I football and is a 3 ½-point home underdog to Texas-El Paso (2-8).

Bettors Alert! It's All About Quarterbacks In NFL

It has been a long time since so many starting NFL quarterbacks who were on the same weekend question marks as to their playing status. The only thing we know for sure is that Pittsburgh Steelers signal caller, Ben Roethlisberger, is out indefinitely with a separated shoulder and a dislocated rib.

With Roethlisberger out, the veteran Byron Leftwich gets the call at Pittsburgh.

From there on it is anybody's guess.

Both quarterbacks in the Chicago Bears at San Francisco 49ers game suffered concussions in their last games and are questionable for their Monday night showdown. San Francisco's Alex Smith has started practicing and that is an indication he will play but the Bears Jay Cutler has been kept on the sidelines, sending signals he will not.  Colin Kaepernick is the 49ers backup while Jason Campbell holds that spot for the Bears.

The Philadelphia Eagles Michael Vick suffered a severe concussion last week and has hardly been at practice this week, signaling that he will not play Sunday against the Washington Redskins. Rookie Nick Foles (Arizona) has been taking all the snaps this week and is expected to start.

Kansas City's Brady Quinn is still suffering from the effects of a concussion and will not play Sunday against Cincinnati. Matt Cassel will get the start.

It is pay attention time in the NFL.
