Get Set To Take Down All The Money On 200-Unit Weekend In NBA Playoffs - And Major League Baseball's First 75-Unit Baseball Parlay Will Break The Bank
By Kelso Sturgeon
While the main focus of sports bettors is on the National Basketball Association playoffs and Major League Baseball I have set aside two hours each day to work on the coming football season and it is already obvious Alabama will field the best team among the 120 that compete at the NCAA Division I level. It would be my suggestion to take the 5-1 futures price on the Crimson Tide-a number my figures say is a bargain for a team that has won two of the last three national championships.
Blue chip talent and outstanding coaching wins national titles and Alabama certainly has both. Head Coach Nick Saban will be going for his third title in the past nine years, having also got the job done at LSU in 2003.
My figures say Alabama should be the 9-5 favorite to take home to Tuscaloosa the school's 19th national championship. The figures also sprung a major surprise by revealing South Carolina has the most blue-chip talent and quality depth of all 120 teams. The Gamecocks are listed at anywhere from 30-1 to 42-1 to win their first title and needless to say I have taken a futures saver on them.
Head coach Steve Spurrier won a championship at Florida in 1996
The figures also give big numbers to Texas, Auburn, Southern California and Florida State. Those same figures say Texas needs to step up and be counted again among the game's elite. The Longhorns have over the past two seasons accomplished less with more than any team in college football. Texas went 8-5 last season while losing three of its last four regular-season games, with the losses coming at Missouri, 17-5, at home to Kansas State, 17-13, and at Baylor, 48-24.
The season before, Texas went 5-7 with its only win in its last six games a 51-17 victory over Florida Atlantic, a 21 ½-point underdog.
Texas had the talent in 2010 and 2011 to contend for the national title and it never happened-didn't even come close-and one has to ask if the world has passed by Head Coach Mack Brown.
It is all just food for thought and I will be back here at least once a week to share what I find as I continue to get ready for the coming season.
Mark September 1 on your calendar right now and get ready to watch what could be one of the best games of the season-the matchup in Arlington, Texas, between Alabama and Michigan.
I make Alabama -9 ½.

SEC Goes For 7th Straight Championship
The Southeastern Conference-the only true power conference in college football-has won the last six national championship games and thus it is no surprise a team from the SEC is favored to win it all again. Last season the 1-2 teams in the SEC-Alabama and LSU-played for the national title, with the Crimson Tide winning, 21-0.
Just in case you care to know which school has won the most national football title, please be advised that honor falls to Princeton with 28, with Yale in second place at 22. Michigan holds down the third spot with 22 championships while Notre Dame weighs in with 21, with Alabama in the fifth spot with 18.
Let this column serve as a reminder that the football season is coming and that I am already getting ready with the intention of having my greatest football season ever.
