The sports ticker never stops as the National Football League plays catch-up after a five-month lockout that left both the players and the owners on the outside looking in, so let's take a deep breath and use this chaotic situation to focus a little on college football which opens its season with 15 games, Thursday night, September 1, six of which will be on the board.

The Golden Nugget sports book in downtown Las Vegas is giving college bettors a decent look-ahead by posting advance betting lines for the entire season on key games. On the opening Saturday of the season, the two biggest games on the schedule will both be played on neutral sites, a fact that makes the opening betting lines quite interesting.

Oregon, which went 12-1 last season and lost the national championship game to Auburn, 22-19, last season, is the 6-1 third choice behind Oklahoma and Alabama to win it all this season but finds itself a 1-point underdog to LSU (11-2 and 8-1 to win the BCS championship) in a game that will be played in Arlington, Texas, at Cowboys Stadium.

The other impact game finds Boise State (12-1 last season and 10-1 in the title betting) a 2 ½-point choice over Georgia (6-7 and member of the betting field at 50-1) in a game in Atlanta's Georgia Dome.

Here is a complete week-by-week list of the current early betting lines posted at the Golden Nugget with the home team in CAPS.
