I brought another solid football season to a close by winning three consecutive 100-unit plays in the National Football League playoffs, including taking the Green Bay Packers (-2 1/2) in their 31-25 Super Bowl win over the Pittsburgh Steelers. Now, it is on to bigger and better things in college and NBA basketball, including my 200-unit College Basketball Game of the Year this Saturday.

While I pushed my Super Bowl record to 9-2 in the last 11, I missed the total for the first time in 11 years and head into next season with a 10-1 record with that bet. I had 'under' 44 and the game obviously went 'over'. Maybe I was overdue to lose this one?

The Super Bowl was big for me. It was not for the bookmakers in Las Vegas who said they were taken to the cleaners by bettors who not only took Green Bay and the 'over' but who also parlayed them and got 13-5 for their money. Most bookmakers took things in stride but in a town that specializes in taking your money, the house has no sense of humor when it loses and the street says the bookmaker who took two $1,000,000 winning bets on the Packers might find himself tending bar somewhere.

While the final figures are not in, everything points to the Nevada sports books losing for but the third time since 1995. The last losing Super Bowl for Las Vegas bookmakers came in 2008 when the New York Giants hogged all the money at the ridiculous price of +12 against the New England Patriots and won straight up, 17-14.

Listed in the chart below are the betting summaries of Super Bowl betting from 1995 to the present. I will announce this year's betting as soon as it is totaled. The books in Vegas were really cut up but I have been told off-shore took a real bloodbath and lost far more than their state-side counterparts.

Super Bowl Betting History

Here is a summary of Super Bowl Betting for the previous 13 years. The first figure listed obviously is the year, with the second figure the total amount of money bet in Nevada. The third figure is the amount of money (the hold) that bookmakers made on the game, while the figure right after that is the percentage of their total handle was profit.

2010 $82,726,367 $6,857,101 8.3 Saints 31, Colts 17

Youngstown State (8-15) +12 1/2 over WRIGHT STATE (16-9)
Prediction: Wright State by 6-7
Final Score: Wright State 74, Youngstown State 70 (Win)
Comments: Youngstown State is no world-beater but is playing its best basketball right now and comes into this game off a home win over Butler and an overtime loss at home to Valparaiso--two teams headed for the post-season. I fully expect Wright State to win this game but believe Youngstown State will be in it all the way. The 12 1/2appears to be an enormous number to lay with a team that averages just 63.6 points per game.

Pittsburgh (21-2) +1 over WEST VIRGINIA (15-7)
Prediction: Pittsburgh by 6-7
Final Score: Pittsburgh 71, West Virginia 66 (Win)
Comments: There is not the slightest doubt in my mind Pittsburgh is the best team, even with injured starting guard Ashton Gibbs. West Virginia is a difficult place to win but Pittsburgh is 7-0 on the road this season and has already won at such tough venues as Georgetown, Providence and Connecticut and has beaten Texas on a neutral floor. WVU is 8-1 at home this season but has struggled there against both good and bad teams and has been the poster child for inconsistency, beating Purdue 68-64 at home, 68-64, and three nights later losing to Marshall 75-71 on a neutral floor. I'm going with talent, power and consistency in this one.

NEW ORLEANS HORNETS (32-20) -8 1/2over Minnesota Timberwolves (11-39)
Prediction: New Orleans by 14-15
Final Score: Minnesota 104, New Orleans 92 (Lose)
Comments: This is the perfect spot for the Hornets to get out of a mini-slump, despite the fact they will still be without starting forward Trevor Ariza and starting center Emeka Okafor, as they face a dreadful Minnesota team that is 1-9 in its last 10 games and 2-23 on the road. New Orleans is 20-6 at home this season and stands 5-1 there in its last six games, with the only loss coming at the hands of the Los Angeles Lakers. It also is of note the last time these teams met in New Orleans, the Hornets won, 114-86, and had Okafor in the lineup but were missing superstar guard Chris Paul, who will be present tonight.

The Slump Is Over

I had a miserable run in basketball last week--especially in big game plays--but know that slump is history. It was just one of those things that happens from time to time but I know if I keep doing all the right things it will right itself and it has.

There are a host of big game plays scheduled over the next two weeks and the first big one goes this Saturday as I release my 200-unit College Basketball Game of the Year. It will be followed shortly with my 200-unit NBA Game of the Year.

Get on board with one of my three basketball services (all listed above with Monday's games) and start winning today. The price is right and I do accept all major credit cards. Get all the details in the service section on this site, or by calling my office, toll free at 1-800-755-2255.

Duquesne Wins 81.3% Of Time For Bettors

One mistake many basketball bettors make is to focus their attention on well-known teams and in the process miss outstanding opportunities to cash a high percentage of tickets on lesser known teams that often are offered with soft betting lines.

Duquesne, a quiet member of the Atlantic 10 Conference, is hidden in the shadow of nationally-ranked Pittsburgh in the Steel City, but is tied for first place in conference play with Xavier. The Dukes are16-6 straight up (SU) and 13-3 against the spread (ATS) and that means they are covering the number 81.3% of the time. Compare this with top-ranked and 24-0 Ohio State which is just 11-10 against the number or crosstown rival Pittsburgh, which is 22-2 SU and 8-9 ATS.

There are six other college basketball teams winning at better than a 70% clip--Texas, George Mason, Hampton, Tennessee-Martin, San Francisco and Belmont. I am going to list and discuss the 18 bread-winners in this week's newsletter, which will soon be posted on this site. Don't miss it.

Free Winners Here Every Day

A reminder: a free college or NBA play is listed on this site each day, and they do win. Yesterday it was Murray State (-8) winning in a revenge game as it got the money at Eastern Illinois, 66-53.

The winners are there and the price is right.
