Bookmakers Make AFC Team 4-Point Super Bowl Favorite Amid Confusion Of Weekend Betting Lines

The National Football League playoffs are never a chicken dinner for handicappers but I am pleased to report I got off to an excellent start by winning a 50-unit play on the Baltimore Ravens (-3) in their 30-7 blowout win over the Kansas City Chiefs and by knocking down a victorious 25-unit side/total parlay on the underdog New York Jets (+2 ½) with their 17-16 upset win over Indianapolis, plus the "under".

That set the stage for this weekend's divisional playoffs and my 100-unit NFL Playoff Game of the Year and I am confident-extremely confident-that I will win this game for the sixth time in the last seven years. I can't tip my hand as to which day-Saturday or Sunday-the game will be played, but it should be a chicken dinner.

I am offering the two-day, four-game weekend in a package for just $75, charged to your major credit card. If it is more convenient, you can play by the day for $50 per day.
The games will be available toll free at my office, 1-800-755-2255, or here online. Just remember-I'm working overtime to get the money for you.
This should be a giant winning weekend in football and basketball.
I am kicking off the weekend on Friday night with another 50-unit NBA Game of the Week - a game in which I stand 4-1 with my last five. On Saturday, I will come out firing in college basketball with my 100-unit College Game of the Week and I like this game so much, I am releasing this team on a guaranteed to win basis.
If for any reasons this game does not win, I am going to give you a week of my Personal Best Basketball Club selections for Highrollers absolutely free. The figures say you can take this one to the bank and those figures are also supported by a weak betting line and the fact the team I am releasing is in the perfect situation to win in blowout fashion.
There are several important elements that changed in college basketball this past weekend and they are of such consequence to bettors that they must be discussed. These issues are discussed on page 2.
But, first let's address the NFL and this weekend's games.

NFL Schedule

Saturday, Jan. 15
Baltimore Ravens (13-4) at Pittsburgh Steelers (12-4)
Green Bay Packers (11-6) at Atlanta Falcons (13-3)

Sunday, Jan. 16
Seattle Seahawks (8-9) at Chicago Bears (11-5)
New York Jets (12-5) at New England Patriots (14-2)

It goes without saying the eight remaining teams trying to get to the Super Bowl, which will be played at Cowboys Stadium in Arlington, Texas, Sunday evening, February 4, will come prepared to take their best shots in these games. The betting lines are tighter than a dead heat and beating the number in these games will most certainly require a lot of hard work and digging to find the edge that gets the money.

You might want to begin with a little background on each of the teams in these games.

For openers each home team in these games had a bye week and did not have to play last week. The four visiting teams all played, with Baltimore, Green Bay and the Jets all winning on the road while Seattle won at home.

For instance, Pittsburgh and Baltimore finished tied for the AFC North title at 12-4 and split their two games during the season, with the Ravens winning at Pittsburgh, 17-14, as a 2 ½-point underdog, and with the Steelers winning at Baltimore13-10 as a 3-point underdog six weeks ago. The Steelers starting quarterback, Ben Roethlisberger was serving a suspension and did not play in the first game.

Pittsburgh was 5-3 at home this season while Baltimore was 5-3 on the road.

In Saturday's second game, Green Bay played at Atlanta November 28 and lost, 20-17, as a 2 ½-point underdog. Atlanta was 7-1 at home this season while the Packers went 3-5 on the road.

Seattle, which faces the Chicago Bears Sunday, was the first team in NFL history to make the playoffs with a losing record and pulled off one of the biggest upsets in playoff history when, as a 10-point underdog, beat the defending Super Bowl champion New Orleans Saints to advance. Seattle opened the playoffs as the longest price on board at 200-1 to win the big one.

Seattle and Chicago met in Chicago October 17 and the Seahawks won, 23-20, as a 6-point underdog.

The New England Patriots and the New York Jets finished 1-2 in the AFC East and will be meeting for the second time. The Jets upset the Patriots, 28-14, at home as 3-point underdogs in the second game of the season. In the rematch December 6 at New England the Patriots were 3 ½-point favorites and won, 45-3. This is one of the most heated rivalries in the NFL and bettors can expect fireworks.

It is of note the last two season in which New England went 14-2 in the regular season-in 2003 and 2004-the Patriots won the Super Bowl. New England took an 18-0 record into the 2007 Super Bowl and lost to the New York Giants, 17-14, as 12-point favorites.

Shop For Right Numbers

NFL betting lines usually do not vary much from book to book but that was not the case early in the week. The lines were all over the board and in most cases around key numbers. This means you must shop for the right betting lines and find the one most favorable to you and the team you like.

Here are the current line situations.

  • Pittsburgh opened as a 3 ½-point favorite over Baltimore and one could find a number of books at that number, while others dropped it to -3. Many of the offshore books, as they do all season, were letting bettors buy up or down off the 3 and were charging the regular fee of -120 up to -135 to do that. The total opened at 36 but immediately went to 36 ½, with a few books offering the game at 37.
  • Atlanta opened at -2 ½ over Green Bay but that number then went all over the spectrum. I saw books offering the game at that price, at -2 and even -1 ½. The total opened at 45 ½ and stayed there.
  • Chicago opened at -9 over Seattle, jumped to -9 ½ and to -10 in some shops. The total opened at 39 and immediately went to 40.
  • New England opened at -9 over the New York Jets and could be found later at -8 ½ at some books.

Just remember this is a game of points and half points and it will pay to shop for the right price. I wish you well.
