Did Texas A&M Peak Too Soon
Tony Salinas: Did Texas A&M Peak Too Soon?
Thanks to all of you who joined me for Denver and Under in Super Bowl 50 this past Sunday. That combination was pretty much never in doubt. Last week I asked if you realized how rare it's been lately for favorites to win blowouts in the big game. We did have a blowout this time...but it was the disrespected underdog that got tired of all the early talk that they had "no chance" to beat Carolina. Tell a team they have no chance, and they'll do whatever they can to prove you wrong. That's just as true now as the first time I told you about it many years ago!
That same kind of attitude may have permeated the Texas A&M basketball program at the start of the 2015-2016 season. Few were giving them a chance to dethrone Kentucky in the SEC. Kentucky has ruled the league with such an iron fist, that it's pretty much assumed that nobody else has a chance to win the conference. Texas A&M played like they had something to prove out of the gate...and through the first 40% or so of SEC action. Kentucky started so poorly, that it started to look like A&M might win the league this season!
You longtime readers know I follow the main Texas teams very closely because of my roots in the Lone Star State. I moved from Texas to Las Vegas many decades ago. But, I'm still a Texan at heart. In a lot of ways (particularly in the world of gambling), Nevada is just "North Texas" anyway.
I was excited to see the Aggies do well. But, they've really hit a wall in recent outings.
Texas A&M (-19) only beat helpless Missouri 66-53
Texas A&M (-3) lost at Arkansas 74-71
Texas A&M (+1.5) lost at struggling Vanderbilt 77-60
Texas A&M (-9.5) lost at home to South Carolina 81-78
That's four straight non-covers while losing three-out-of-four straight up. A 6-0 start in the SEC (including wins over Florida and LSU) is now suddenly 7-3 with an anvil heading into Wednesday night's road game at Alabama. And, the last two outings missed the spread by 15.5 and 12.5 points! A&M is moving in the wrong direction at the worst possible time. Look at what's happening at the top of the SEC standings.
LSU 8-2 (despite a loss to A&M)
Kentucky 8-3 (after routing Georgia Tuesday night)
Texas A&M 7-3
South Carolina 7-3 (with a win over the Aggies)
Suddenly it's tight at the top. LSU and Ben Simmons are proving naysayers wrong after their slow start. Kentucky has really started clicking in recent games...with plenty of time left to make a run at another National Championship. The Aggies? If they continue spiraling out of control, they could be out of the race in two weeks.
A&M's Upcoming Schedule
Tonight: at Alabama
Saturday: at LSU (and the revenge-minded Tigers)
February 16: vs. Ole Miss
February 20: vs. Kentucky (maybe the game of the year in the SEC!)
The Crimson Tide probably won't just roll over Wednesday. Then LSU and Kentucky are coming up very soon. If the Aggies lose those...they'll be sinking while vaulting the Tigers and Wildcats even higher!
Needless to say, this is a very important two weeks for Texas A&M. I'll be watching them very closely because TONY SALINAS wants to find darkhorses he can ride all through February and March. The mainstream media and oddsmakers just don't want to respect this team. That could fuel a surprising stretch run if the Aggies can rebuild some confidence in those four games I just listed.
On the other hand...if the Aggies go 1-3 or worse straight up, then I'll be fairly convinced they peaked too early. Some teams just can't handle the pressure. We're about to find out a lot about this group from College Station.
Whether or not the Aggies become a Cinderella, the stage is certainly set this year for a lot of March surprises. You see that every night. Texas almost beat #3 Oklahoma on the road on Big Monday. Heck, North Carolina almost lost to Boston College Tuesday night...and BC is one of the worst teams in the country. Could this be the year a #1 loses to a #16? I'll answer that this way. The odds are better for that this year than they usually are. Every potential #1 has some vulnerability that can be exploited.
We'll be building our bankrolls for MARCH MADNESS all through the month of February. If you're an action-minded player, then my service is perfect for you. I play a few sides and totals most nights. Don't you ever forget that I'm the only man in the sports handicapping industry who makes his living as a professional gambler. I'm not making videos or sending out tweets. You'll find me at the poker table here in Las Vegas or at a sportsbook placing bets. You'll get the games I'm betting the biggest myself.
Those BEST BETS can be purchased right here at the website with your credit card. If you have any questions about combination packages with basketball, call the office at 1-888-777-4155 and ask about TONY SALINAS. It was great to win another Super Bowl so easily. But, that's just another day in the life of a real gambler. New games to win every day!
I'll talk to you again next week. In the meantime, keep GETTING THE BEST OF IT with TONY SALINAS!
