Wayne Root: Can Lions Shock the Packers for NFC North Crown?

There are a lot of important games on Sunday's NFL schedule. But, the game that I believe has the greatest impact on the championship race is the afternoon kickoff between the Detroit Lions and Green Bay Packers that will determine the winner of the NFC North.

We already know that both teams will be in the playoffs. But, the winner here will be positioned to earn one of the top two seeds and a first round bye. Space doesn't permit me to go through all the possibilities given that FIVE teams in the NFC currently have 11-4 records! We know that the winner of Detroit/Green Bay will be 12-4...and we know that they will have a strong conference record in the tie-breaker. The chips will fall where they may with Dallas, Seattle, and Arizona.

Most importantly to me...this game features a pair of teams who may be destined to play important roles in the postseason.

*Green Bay is basically a co-favorite with Seattle right now in most respected Power Ratings to represent the NFC in the Super Bowl. The odds on the board in Vegas may not show that once the brackets are locked in place (Seattle as a #1 seed would move into sole possession of "favorite" status because of its strong home field advantage). The true "short list" of potential Lombardi Trophy winners definitely has the Packers in play. This is a team that's very likely to matter in January, which means handicappers and sports bettors should learn this group inside and out.

*Detroit has a legitimate chance to be a Cinderella in the playoffs because of its great defense. Defense wins championships! I don't see a championship on the horizon just yet because it's hard to trust head coach Jim Caldwell or quarterback Matthew Stafford to string together multiple postseason victories. But, having the #2 defense in the NFL, and an offense that now has respect for playing smart and protecting the ball is a potent January combination. Put that team in any weather, and they'll be able to compete. Great defenses can slow down great offenses. A break here or there...and upsets happen! This is how the Jets made it to two straight AFC championship games under Rex Ryan.

It was a few months back now...but don't forget that Detroit beat Green Bay 19-7 in their first meeting this season. The defense isn't afraid of Aaron Rodgers. They won't be afraid of whoever they play in the NFC brackets.

Now, I'm not going to tell you here in my web article whether Detroit is a dog I'll take on the final Sunday of the regular season. There are great possibilities all over the board. I'll cherry-pick the very best for my clients. I can assure you that I'll be watching the Lions very closely with an eye on what happens the next time they take the field. WAYNE ALLYN ROOT is THE KING OF UPSETS for a reason! I'm always thinking a few weeks ahead. If anyone is destined to surprise the more heralded playoff entries leading up to a championship, it's likely to be a team that plays like Detroit (or Ryan's best Jets teams from a few years ago). Think about THAT as you watch Lions/Packers and all the other big games Sunday.

I'm the only man in the sports betting industry with a star on the "Walk of Fame" here in Las Vegas. Because I'm always a few steps ahead of the oddsmakers...any oddsmaker who gets a star will find his a few steps behind mine! I'm already mapping out the playoffs. You should be too. Don't sit in front of the TV rooting for you bets. Study the teams so you can win more bets!

Or, let me do all the homework while you just cash your winning tickets. You can purchase my game day BEST BETS right here on the website with your credit card. If you have any questions about postseason packages, or combo packages with basketball, please talk to my representative in the office at 1-877-ROOT-WINS You can call any day before the games start.

My next web report will be Monday when I talk about how to find SHOCKERS, STUNNERS, and UPSETS in the major bowl games. We have a great slate next week that leads up to the Final Four games on New Year's. Do you think it's going to be all favorites that win? The public makes that mistake year after year. I'll provide some tips on how to find the best potential shockers in games like Texas/Arkansas, Notre Dame/LSU, Ole Miss/TCU, Michigan State/Baylor...and...of course...Oregon/Florida State and Alabama/Ohio State.

I hope you had a great holiday with your loved ones. Now it's time to focus on beating the books in the most important football games of the year. That means it's time for you to go to W.A.R alongside WAYNE ALLYN ROOT!
