Are We Watching NBA Bracket Busters

Are We Watching NBA Bracket Busters?!

By Wayne Root:

If the teams that currently own home court advantage in the first round of the NBA Playoffs (as of Friday morning Las Vegas time) are able to win their series, the second round will look like this:

Atlanta (8) vs. Washington (5)
Brooklyn (6) vs. Miami (1)

Dallas (8) vs. Portland (5)
Memphis (7) vs. LA Clippers (3)

There’s still a lot of basketball left to be played in the first round. And, it seems impossible to believe that San Antonio, Oklahoma City, and to a lesser extent Houston are going to be teams that won at least 54 regular season games but couldn’t make it out of their openers. But, that’s what’s staring the league, its fans, and sports bettors in the face.

  • San Antonio struggled this season against the true elites in the league (including 0-4 records vs. both Oklahoma City and Houston). Their ability to embarrass bad teams doesn’t matter in the playoffs. And, they’ve been surprised by the good defensive effort thus far from Dallas (particularly in the area of forcing turnovers). Even if San Antonio survives and advances, they’ll be more vulnerable in the second round against Portland than had originally been believed.
  • Oklahoma City is getting bullied inside by Memphis, and is asking its star scorers Kevin Durant and Russell Westbrook to carry too much of the load. That’s already tough to do in a physical series…but now we’re talking about a physical series that’s had back-to-back overtimes. The Thunder will be mauled physically by the Grizzlies, and may not have much left in the tank in the second round if they cans survive
  • Indiana, as we’ve talked about already, was a very vulnerable #1 seed because they’ve had very clear chemistry issues for a few months. They hadn’t played championship caliber basketball in the second half of the season, and really didn’t even manage playoff caliber basketball down the stretch. Even if the top seed in the East bounces back vs. Atlanta, they’re going to be in big trouble in the second round.

Right now…in my view:

Atlanta vs. Washington seems likely
Brooklyn vs. Miami seems likely, though Toronto’s far from out of it
Dallas vs. Portland seems like a longshot because of San Antonio’s experience
Memphis vs. the LA Clippers could definitely happen

Most important to me is that the Conference Championships in a few weeks may well be missing the #1 and #2 seeds who were supposed to be there. It’s hard to see Indiana getting back on track at all. Oklahoma City is in trouble now, and doesn’t seem ready for the LA Clippers athletic juggernaut in the second round. San Antonio is now at least questionable after being a heavy favorite to reach the Western finals. Only Miami seems safe…but they have a way of making things more interesting than needed even when they’re winning.

Through 19 playoff games, underdogs are 13-6-1 against the spread (and 11-8 straight up!). Obviously that plays right into the hands of THE KING OF UPSETS!  I’m very excited about how things are going so far in the NBA postseason, I started 10-4…and I think I have a good read on what’s about to happen in the next few days. I’ll either be on underdogs or short favorites through the rest of Game 3 and Game 4 action. You can purchase my PLAYOFF BEST BETS right here at the website with your credit card.

If you have any questions, please talk to one of my representatives in the Vegas-Sports-Masters office at 1-877-ROOT-WINS.  Now is the ideal time to check on combination packages with Major League Baseball and the Kentucky Derby and Triple Crown Horse racing. Your consultant will be happy to help you find the package and program that best suits your individual needs.

I’m the only man in the sports betting industry with a star on the “Walk of Fame” here in Las Vegas. I’m always a few steps ahead of the oddsmakers. If an oddsmaker ever gets a star, his will naturally be a few steps behind mine (maybe a few blocks!). You already know that oddsmakers are having a horrible time of it so far through the playoffs. They can’t even make the right team the favorite more than half the time out of the gate! They’re not even talking to the press any more after they were publicly (and loudly) so wrong about so many teams in the NCAA Tournament back in March. And, they’re doing a worse job NOW than they were back in the Dance!

When underdogs are going crazy like this…it’s definitely time to go to W.A.R. alongside THE KING OF UPSETS WAYNE ALLYN ROOT!
