Is More BCS Chaos on the Way?

By Wayne Root:

You may think that the BCS picture is locked in place with the winner of Saturday's SEC Championship matchup between Alabama and Georgia set to play Notre Dame for the national championship. Sports bettors need to be aware that all sorts of chaos is still possible in terms of finalizing the full slate of BCS bowls. Big surprises may still be on the way!

First of all...most pundits have already penciled in Alabama for that title tilt. They say it's going to be Alabama-Notre Dame...and then Georgia has to worry about losing the second SEC BCS paycheck bid to #4 Florida (who could move up to #3 if Georgia loses badly). Keep all of the following in mind heading into this weekend:

  • Alabama could definitely lose to Georgia...in an SEC Championship game being played in Atlanta...against a quarterback who's much better than LSU's Zach Mettenberger. Mettenberger should have led LSU to a win over 'Bama the week before "Johnny Football of Texas A&M did." Don't assume Notre Dame-Alabama is a lock! Aaron Murray and the Bulldogs will have a lot to say about that against a Crimson Tide defense that's been surprisingly vulnerable in recent action.

  • Stanford has been penciled into the Rose Bowl by too many pundits, because they're hosting a UCLA team in the Pac 12 Championship game that they beat on the road last week. Well, let me tell you, UCLA played that VERY SMART! Beating Stanford would have set up UCLA-Oregon...a game the Bruins had no chance to win. Jim Mora gave his Bruins their best opportunity to win the conference. You will see more intensity this week from the 9-point underdog. UCLA may be hosting the Big Ten champ come New Year's.

  • Florida State vs. Rutgers has been tabbed by many as the probable Orange Bowl matchup this season. Both of those teams are favored in the ACC and Big East respectively. Note that Florida State will be playing Georgia Tech in Charlotte...and the Seminoles have yet to cover a game away from home this season. Rutgers is only a field goal favorite Thursday Night vs. Louisville in the de-facto Big East championship game that wraps up the regular season for both teams. Will we see FSU-Rutgers in a BCS bowl? Or, will another dog shock the system?!

I'm known as THE KING OF UPSETS because I understand what elements have to be in place for shocking results. It's always a mix of intangibles and matchup advantages that leads dogs to their bones. And that mix will certainly trigger a special college football release for my clients Thursday, Friday, or Saturday this week.
