Hot and Cold Teams in NFL Betting

Heading into the 11th Sunday of NFL action, there are several teams who are either on hot or cold runs that sports bettors need to be aware of. Whether you're the type who likes riding tendencies for as long as they're profitable, or a contrarian who likes betting reversals, these lists of hot and cold NFL cover teams will be of interest to you.

HOT AGAINST THE SPREAD

  • The Green Bay Packers have covered three of their last four after starting the season in the doldrums. That Sunday Night win in Houston triggered a hot run that has cashed at a 75% rate.

  • The Detroit Lions host Green Bay Sunday, and are 4-1 ATS their last five games. The non-cover was last week at Minnesota. Did that streak-buster signal a turnaround? Or, was it just a team stubbing its toe before getting back in synch?

  • The Tampa Bay Bucs have covered three straight and four of their last five. Greg Schiano has done a great job so far of getting this team focused and productive. The market sure underestimated him, as the Bucs have cashed at a 67% rate this season.

  • The Indianapolis Colts have covered four straight, five of their last six and six of their last eight as Andrew Luck continues to have a great rookie season.

  • The Houston Texans have covered three straight games, and are 7-2 ATS for the full season. This is far from a surprise team because they were a popular choice to win the AFC if they stayed healthy. But, the market has still underestimated them through the bulk of the campaign.

  • The New Orleans Saints are 5-1 ATS their last six games, with the only failure coming three weeks ago in Denver. They followed that up with covers against Philadelphia and Atlanta.

  • The Denver Broncos have covered four straight games and are 5-1 ATS over their last six. The only blemish during that span was a road loss in New England. No shame in that.

COLD AGAINST THE SPREAD

  • The Philadelphia Eagles have failed to cover four straight games, and are 1-7-1 ATS in their nine outings this season. This is the WORST team in pro football in terms of market expectations to this point in the 2012 season.

  • The Arizona Cardinals have failed to cover SIX straight games. Maybe last week's bye will help them stem that tide. The Cards are 3-6 ATS for the year, with a 3-0 streak followed by the current 0-6 run.

  • The New England Patriots are 1-3 ATS their last four games, which is 0-3 ATS on US soil! Their only good game of late came in London against the St. Louis Rams. That result was surrounded by non-covers against Seattle, the NY Jets, and Buffalo.

  • The Cincinnati Bengals are 1-4 ATS their last five games, though they did cover last week against the NY Giant. Was that simply a case of the Giants handing away a game with miscues? The Bengals have largely been a disappointment since the end of September.

  • The Oakland Raiders have failed to cover their last two games and are 1-3 ATS over their last four. A season that's been full of heavy travel may be starting to take its toll.

  • The San Diego Chargers are 1-4 ATS their last five games after last week's loss at Tampa Bay. They're also 2-5 ATS their last seven games in what is likely to be the final season of the Norv Turner regime.
