Jets Already Making Headlines
Jets Already Making Headlines
By Wayne Allyn Root
The New York Jets officially begin their 2012 NFL Preseason Friday Night on the road against the Cincinnati Bengals in a game that will be nationally televised by the NFL Network. But, if you watch ESPN every day, or read the national press, you may have thought their season began a month ago!
In terms of media hype, the Jets season began the day they acquired Tim Tebow. ESPN is obsessed with Tebow to a degree that's ridiculous. Yes, he attracts attention. I understand the need for ratings. But, why alienate the fan bases of 29 other teams by focusing so much on a backup quarterback on a non-playoff team?!
I grew up in Mt. Vernon, New York as a true S.O.B. (son of a butcher!). I've always followed the New York scene closely even after I moved out here to Las Vegas many years ago. I understand the unique pressures that athletes there experience. I believe that's part of why Mark Sanchez had so much trouble last year. The city ran out of patience with him just as his teammates were running out of patience with him. On the other hand, the crosstown Giants have learned how to handle the pressure...and have two recent Super Bowl victories to show for it.
I'm very interested in how the Jets soap opera is going to play itself out this year. So, I'll be watching tonight's game very closely. Based on what I've been reading, and what I've been hearing from my sources back in the Big Apple, the potential for implosion is very high. Among the reasons:
There are still various factions within the team that don't get along with each other. You've probably read about fights on the field during training camp. Some of that is okay. But, with the Jets, this is a continuation of last year when poor chemistry helped tear apart the team.
The defense is still allowed to make its own rules. That leads to a lack of focus and a lack of discipline when it matters most. And, it also exacerbates the team chemistry issue.
Head coach Rex Ryan knows how to talk the talk...and he can walk the walk when everything's going well. But, he doesn't know how to fix problems that come up beyond yelling at people before letting them go back to doing the same wrong things. This type of coach can inspire big improvements when they first arrive. They eventually lose their team. Many believe that Ryan lost this team last year and doesn't have it back yet. I can't disagree with that based on my information.
Tebow is a bad quarterback! He provides leadership without the production. Defenses have mostly figured him out, and this year they won't let him run the field late in close games to steal victories (assuming he gets on the field in the first place). Sometimes, a new leader can come in and inspire a team. I just don't see most of the separate factions rallying behind Tebow. If anything, a few have rallied behind Sanchez even though his numbers were so disappointing last year. The defense won't rally around a quarterback until he moves the chains consistently to give them some rest. The Jets don't currently have a quarterback who's shown he can do that.
It's going to be fun watching everything play itself out. Even if trouble is looming though, it won't hit full force until the regular season. The Jets could easily impress during this Preseason as everyone takes out their anger on opponents who are only going at half speed. I've been in close contact with my New York connections for information about Jets/Bengals and the NY Giants/Jacksonville game that's also being played Friday Night. And, given my success Thursday in the NFL, I could strike anywhere on the card!
THURSDAY'S NFL RESULTS
San Diego (-2) beat Green Bay 21-13
Buffalo (+2) covered vs. Washington in a 7-6 loss
Philadelphia (-1) pushed vs. Pittsburgh in a 24-23 win
That's 2-0-1 to start the season. And, my baseball has been ON FIRE lately. I'm 8-1 the past few days, and 31-14 the past couple of weeks!
You can purchase my football and baseball picks right here at the website. I also have early bird rates for the full football season (pro and college). If you have any questions, call my handicapping office at 1-877-766-8946. It's very important that you get set up NOW because there are football games every day this weekend...and because baseball right now is like taking candy from a baby!
The S.O.B. from New York is now THE KING OF LAS VEGAS with his own star on the "Walk of Fame." I know how to beat the number in the NFL Preseason, as I've proven year after year since arriving in the gambling capital of the world. Football is back. That means it's time to go to W.A.R. alongside WAYNE ALLYN ROOT!
