Wayne Root: What's Up With LeBron?

I told you before the NBA championships started that there were going to be some big surprises when the Dallas Mavericks and Miami Heat went to war. The last time we were together, I discussed some of the smaller surprises that had already occurred in the series.

Today, we have to talk about the possibility of a SHOCK THE SYSTEM surprise involving LeBron James. After being called out by members of the media for "shrinking" late in Game Three, he mostly DISAPPEARED through all of Game Four! He hardly shot the ball. He tried to stay out of the way when Dwyane Wade was running the offense. He took up his position on defense, but was far from the aggressive force we had seen in early games.

The most common word in the media was "passive." One of the Dallas players said he "checked out." However you describe it, LeBron James...when it was time to show the world that he was going to be the next Michael Jordan...ran and hid from the limelight.

Maybe he'll bounce back strong tonight, and put Miami in position to wrap the series up in Game Six on Sunday Night. Maybe James will have more of those amazing playoff scoring runs that we saw back when he was with the Cavaliers. Or, maybe, we're about to find out that King James isn't destined to be a king at all. Who could have imagined THAT being the big story of this year's playoffs?!

I have a very strong opinion about what to expect from James tonight and this weekend. That opinion is obviously influencing the major releases I'll be posting for my clients (and for YOU if you'd like to become a client) here at the website. So, I won't go into details about those expectations. Once you have the pick, you'll pretty much know what I'm thinking anyway!

What I want to emphasize in the article today is that this series is about a lot more than just LeBron James and his eventual legacy. We're looking at Dirk Nowitzki and his legacy. Jason Kidd and his legacy. Maybe even owner Mark Cuban and his legacy. He's disappeared himself from the limelight by his own choosing, and it would be ironic if THAT'S what won him a championship. Of course, we're looking at Dwyane Wade and his legacy as well. He's already won a championship, and an MVP award in the finals. What about Erik Spoelstra. You get the feeling he'll be around a long time, and this series will shape his eventual career.

Surprises, even SHOCK THE SYSTEM developments are possible with any of those characters in this drama. The money you make the rest of the way will involve how well you're able to read the tea leaves with those influences. And, the money you make in ALL SPORTS over THE REST OF YOUR LIFE will involve how well you're able to anticipate the storylines in any matchup taking place.

This is what separates winning industry handicappers from guys who make just make some picks. This is what separates winning Las Vegas gamblers from the losers that subsidize all the casinos and sportsbooks. The causes of market surprises that you can profit from come from a deep understanding of what drives the reality of sports. I realized that at a very young age as I watched my local teams either respond well or poorly to various soap operas covered in the New York media. I put it to good use as the "new kid on the block" back in the days of SCORE television. I moved out West and made my name as "handicapper to the stars." A couple of decades later, I'm THE KING OF LAS VEGAS and the only handicapper with a star on the walk of fame here in town. Same strategies. Same principles.

And, those strategies and principals will make sure we keep making money through the NBA Finals, in this Saturday's BELMONT STAKES, through the rest of the 2011 baseball season, and once again this Fall when football is back on the calendar.

Dallas and Miami will go to war again Thursday and Sunday Nights in games that sports fans may be talking about for a long, long time. It's a great time for YOU to go to W.A.R. alongside WAYNE ALLYN ROOT!
