Haynesworth Saga Signals SHOCKER

From the "King of Las Vegas" WAYNE ROOT!

The mainstream media has had a lot of fun with the Albert Haynesworth story. He's a big guy who doesn't want to be pushed around, or trifled with. But, head coach Mike Shanahan is a great leader that knows you can't let the players run the asylum.

Some are suggesting that the Redskins are going to struggle this year. Haynesworth is a head case who may just take his money and run...well, walk. Newly acquired quarterback Donovan McNabb may be way past his prime and a function of Philadelphia's offensive system (why else would they have traded him within the division?). Ownership with this franchise has a way of screwing things up even when they start to go well. That's what you're hearing from skeptics.

I think what we've seen this week is a sign that Washington may be ready to SHOCK THE SYSTEM this year in the NFC East, and maybe the whole NFC.

  • Haynesworth's teammates are losing respect for him by the day. They WANT to see him disciplined. And, they don't mind if his bad attitude stays out of the lineup. Players respect head coaches who don't put up with nonsense.
  • This may eventually register with Haynesworth in a "let me remind you how great I am" kind of way on the field. If the Redskins get THAT version of Haynesworth, and a motivated defense that's all on the same page...they're going to be tough for opponents to deal with.
  • Donovan McNabb should be very motivated to show Philadelphia they made a mistake.
  • Coach Shanahan would like to repair his reputation, which took a hit at the tail end of his Denver tenure.
  • Dallas is a flaky team that's just as likely to implode as they are to play great.
  • Philadelphia is breaking in a new starting quarterback who may not be ready for the full grind of a 16-game season.
  • The Giants are having trouble rebuilding their defense...and defense wins championships in the NFL no matter how many TV commercials quarterbacks get to do.

Washington was a 4-12 team last year that had the stats of a team closer to 7-9 or even 8-8 in caliber. They just upgraded at quarterback. They just upgraded at head coach. What you're seeing this week with the Haynesworth saga could turn out very well though it seems like a distraction now. The defense will be motivated to shine without him. He'll be motivated to shine once he gets back in shape and gets sick of being made fun of by the national press. Look out NFC East...don't assume Washington is going to be a pushover!

I don't want to give away too many of my key teams this year in the NFL. All the talk about Haynesworth pushed me to put this on your radar today. You'll be tempted to write off the Redskins just when you should be focusing on the positives. Yeah, it's a distraction today. What's the end game going to be? What's the end result going to be when a fired up team has full respect for its head coach? Maybe a SHOCK THE SYSTEM season?!
