The NFL Week Sunday Slate -- Chiefs Look to Stay Perfect
THE NFL WEEK 6 SUNDAY SLATE - KEY POINTSPREAD ANALYSES FOR A BATCH OF GAMES INCLUDING THE GIANTS-BRONCOS PRIME-TIMER
It's a bye week for Buffalo, Cincinnati, Dallas and Seattle … but it's everyone else "into the pool" for what figures to be yet another wild weekend in the NFL.
You've got three teams trying to crack its way into the win column - that's Cleveland, the New York Giants and San Francisco - and there's an AFC East "rivalry game" that's back as defending Super Bowl New England plays the born-again New York Jets at MetLife Stadium.
Now, here's some quick-hitter previews from NFL Week 6 with a special look at key spread stats:
Jim Hurley's Network of Handicappers and Bloggers are gonna pound out another big winning week/weekend on the gridiron and don't forget there's lots of Major-League Baseball Playoff winners too all week long when you check in with us here online or at 1-800-323-4453. The NLCS starts Saturday night with the Chicago Cubs at the Los Angeles Dodgers and the ALCS between the New York Yankees at Houston Astros has a late matinee on tap for Saturday
On Sunday, it's …
DETROIT (3-2) at NEW ORLEANS (2-2) - 1 p.m. ET, Fox
Speaking of byes, this is the first post-bye weekend for NFL teams as the N'Orleans Saints were one of four squads (along with Atlanta, Denver and Washington) to be idle last weekend and remember that last year the Saints were 41-38 winners as 2.5-point home dogs in their post-bye game. If Saints' slinger Drew Brees (8 TDs this year) can keep his team from being turnover-free once again (see 0 turnovers in the first four games), then it could be a third straight ATS (against the spread) win for Sean Payton's bunch.
GREEN BAY (4-1) at MINNESOTA (3-2) - 1 p.m. ET, Fox
Just in case you're "sleeping" on these here-and-now Minny Vikings, take note that the purple guys are a super 17-9 spreadwise as underdogs in the Mike Zimmer Era that started back in 2014. Minnesota is a 3-point home pup on Sunday but last year the Vikes snagged a 17-14 win in Week 2 play as 1.5-point home dogs against the rival Packers. Possible problem spot for Minnesota: It ranks 20th in the NFL in passing defense and here faces red-hot QB Aaron Rodgers (13 TDs, 3 INTs) who comes off his latest gallant fourth-quarter rally to beat Dallas.
PITTSBURGH (3-2) at KANSAS CITY (5-0) - 4:25 p.m. ET, CBS
No question the KC Chiefs are the toast of not only the whole NFL these days, but the wagering world too! The AFC West gang is a perfect 5-and-oh against the vig (okay, so don't get us started on their 29-20 win/cover against Washington a couple of MNF's ago!) and truth is the Chiefs are a collective 10-2 ATS since the back end of last year. One of the two teams that beat the Chiefs on the big board was Pittsburgh in that memorable 18-16 Steelers' win as 2.5-point dogs in an AFC Divisional Playoff Game. Note that Pittsburgh's a quirky 14-10-4 spreadwise as dogs the past five-plus seasons but what can anyone expect here after QB Ben Roethlisberger aired five INTs (and no TDs) in last weekend's humbling/bumbling 30-9 loss to Jacksonville?
On Sunday Night, it's …
NEW YORK GIANTS (0-5) at DENVER (3-1) - 8:30 p.m. ET, NBC
Put it this way: Last week the NY Giants had four wide receivers go down with injuries - and now even team optimists don't believe that they'll rack up as many as four wins in what's been a bad season quickly spiraling out of control. Last weekend's 27-22 home loss to the 3-point underdog Los Angeles Chargers - a Best Bet winner for the Jim Hurley Network! - was further marred by season-ending injuries to WR's Odell Beckham, Jr. and Brandon Marshall, so good luck to QB Eli Manning here against a Denver "D" that's yielding just 18.5 points per game. Meanwhile, note the Broncos are shooting for a fifth plus-.500 ATS season the past six years … go back in time and you'll see Denver registered an 11-6 spread mark in 2012, an 11-7-1 ATS log in '13, a 10-7-2 ATS record in '15 and a 9-7 spread record last year. Better yet, the Broncos are a heady 12-6-2 spreadwise when playing non-AFC West foes the past two-plus seasons.
