NBA’s Hot-and-Not Pointspread Sides Plus Friday Previews
THE NBA REPORT:
CHECKING OUT SOME “HOT-N-NOT” SPREAD SIDES PLUS KEY FRIDAY NIGHT TILTS
Here’s the cold/hard fact about wagering on the NBA during this 2016-17 regular season… it’s been murder if, for no other reason, you never really know what players are “resting” and what teams are just “mailing it in”.
Trust us, the NBA Playoffs will be a real challenge (as usual) but way more conventional from a handicapping standpoint and Jim Hurley and his all-star crew will be striking up winning tunes all spring long!
And now hear this…
Jim Hurley and his Network of Handicappers/Bloggers are hitting their stride these days in pro hoops and we’ll be cashing in big with the NBA and with Major-League Baseball too each and every day this month.
Just go online right here at www.JimHurley.com or call our office directly at 1-800-323-4453 and we’ll send you straight into the winner’s circle.
Remember: The NBA Playoffs will begin on Saturday, April 15th.
No question about it that the best way to attack this year’s NBA regular-season games is to grab a high-quality team that has a “reason to play” such as with the Cleveland Cavaliers in their dominant 112-91 victory at 4-point favorite Boston this past Wednesday night (and even Cleveland minus the 11-point price one night earlier in that 122-102 win/cover against the Orlando Magic).
The Cavs want that #1 seed in the Eastern Conference playoffs and that meaningful head-to-head showdown with the Celtics was a “message game” while the prior night’s win against Orlando came following some testy times between LeBron James and his teammates (specifically Tristan Thomas in a Cavs’ huddle) – if you get a team such as the Cavaliers or the San Antonio Spurs or the Golden State Warriors (you get the idea) with a real reason to play hard, then you’ll note those teams usually cash for you.
Otherwise, this has been a crazy wagering year in the pro hoops world but there have been some teams that have thrived lately against Mr. Vig… while others have been not-so-hot spread sides the past couple of weeks.
Here’s a sampling:
BROOKLYN – Who knew that the Nets would rev it up late in this otherwise disastrous season with seven pointspread “W’s” in their last nine games? Give the Borough of Kings guys their due for not quitting on this here-and-now season, just hope you cashed a few pro-Nets plays the past month.
CHICAGO – The Bulls have been bullish lately with a neat 7-3 ATS (against the spread) mark since mid-March… not bad for a team sitting right there with a .500 spread mark at press time. Maybe the Bulls have played harder since the absence of veteran Dwyane Wade, who knows?
SAN ANTONIO – Surprise, surprise. The Spurs have covered eight of their last 10 games even with Wednesday’s stunning 102-95 home loss versus 13.5-point underdog Los Angeles Lakers. It’s standard operating procedure for Gregg Popovich’s club to play strong down the stretch while keeping one eye peeled straight ahead at the post-season.
DETROIT – The Pistons ain’t exactly firing these days with seven spread setbacks in their last 10 games and should Stan Van Gundy’s team get extinguished from the post-season, they might just quit altogether. Either play-against ‘em or sit out Detroit’s final few contests.
HOUSTON – So, what’s happened to James Harden and his Rockets? The Western Conference power has failed to cover its last five games in a row while heading into Friday night’s home game against Detroit.
ORLANDO – The Magic’s done a disappearing act when it comes to cashing bets as the Disney bunch has dropped six of its last eight game vig-wise including four double-digit losses in its last 10 games. Yuk!
On Friday night, it’s…
MIAMI (38-40) at TORONTO (48-31) – 7:35 p.m. ET
The Heat’s hot on the trail for either the seventh or eighth seed in the Eastern Conference playoffs but Erik Spoelstra’s club will have its hands full here North of the Border when you consider the 5-point favored Raptors badly want to avoid falling into the 4th spot in the East seedings (and thus a likely second-round matchup with the mighty Cleveland Cavaliers) and Toronto’s DeMar DeRozan (27.3 ppg) could get ready to go for a full “40”.
ATLANTA (39-38) at CLEVELAND (51-27) – 7:35 p.m. ET, NBA Network
Hey, for all the folks out there that believe this Cavaliers’ club is simply not deep enough or hungry enough for yet another run at the championship, consider this:
The defending champs zoom into this conference clash with a four-game SU (straight-up) winning streak and with a 35-13 SU mark in conference games this year … va-va-va voom! The aforementioned Mr. James turned on his charm in the aforementioned win in Boston on Wednesday night (see 36 points, 10 rebounds and 6 assists) and that sizzling 38-point second quarter proved the Cavs can get cookin’ and end a game faster than you can say Craig Ehlo!
