Super Bowl 51 -- Falcons-Patriots Star the Countdown

LET THE COUNTDOWN BEGIN TOWARDS SUPER BOWL 51 AS WE RE-CAP "LAST 10 YEARS" OF BIG GAME PLUS CHART OUT THIS YEAR'S PLAYOFFS
(WHILE STILL CELEBRATING LAST WEEK'S 3-AND-OH RECORD ON NFL CONFERENCE CHAMPIONSHIP SUNDAY!)

THE WEDNESDAY NIGHT COLLEGE HOOPS WHAT-TO-WATCH LINEUP TOO

By Jim Hurley:

Just so you know: There's plenty of time to analyze/examine/dissect all the "X's and O's" and the "Jimmy's and Joe's" in the next week-and-half as we count down towards Super Bowl 51 in Houston a week from Sunday ... so let's take things in a different direction in this mid-week edition of Jim Sez. And do keep in mind the Jim Hurley Network plans on concluding the Football Season with a real bang with Side/Totals winners for Super Bowl LI ... remember we're 7-0 against the spread the last two weeks:

We cranked out a 4-0 mark in the NFL Divisional Playoffs two weeks ago and then snagged a 3-0 mark last Sunday with Atlanta, the Green Bay-Atlanta "over" and New England all coming through as big-time winners! Cha-ching!

So, what's in a number? Well, this is the Atlanta Falcons' 51st year of existence and this is - as we all know - Super Bowl 51 and so maybe the NFC champions will get to have a golden anniversary-plus-one celebration come the late evening hours of Sunday, Feb. 5th ... 'ya never know! On the flip side, everyone's talking about the number "5" when it comes to the New England Patriots as this could be the fifth Super Bowl title for mega-superstar QB Tom Brady - no quarterback has more SB triumphs (see San Francisco 49ers' Joe Montana with four and Pittsburgh Steelers' QB Terry Bradshaw also with four) - and the fifth Super Bowl crown for Patriots' head coach Bill Belichick (Pittsburgh's Chuck Noll is the only other coach in this era with four Super Bowl rings).

Now, here's a look back at the past 10 Super Bowls:

Yes, a Super Bowl Betting Favorite has not won/covered since the 2010 campaign when Green Bay (- 2.5) topped Pittsburgh by six points, so that's five consecutive Super Bowls where either the underdog won or else we had the "Pick 'Em" game two years ago between New England and Seattle. Overall, Super Bowl Betting Favorites are 2-7-0 ATS (against the spread) with that aforementioned "Pick 'Em" game ... just thought you'd like to know!

Now, let's make a quickie chart review of what's happened so far in this year's NFL Playoffs (note all home teams in CAPS below) ...

It's been a chalky post-season to this point - Favorites are an electric 8-2 against the odds and note you totals players that "overs" are 7-3 versus the vig.

COLLEGE B-BALL WEDNESDAY NITE MENU
Here's some of what we'll be watching on this Wednesday night:

TEXAS TECH (14-5, 3-4) at #5 BAYLOR (18-1, 6-1) - 8 p.m. ET, ESPN News
Okay, so Baylor's stay at #1 in the polls didn't last too long (one week and gonzo) but make no mistake: This Big 12 team has the goods to make a long run in the month of March and here the Bears gun for a fourth straight win with defense the calling card ... did you know Baylor held TCU to 17-of-59 shooting from the floor (that's 29 percent) in last weekend's 62-53 win/cover at 3.5-point pup TCU?

#8 UCLA (19-2, 6-2) at USC (17-4, 4-4) - 11 p.m. ET, Fox 1
Forget about the movie La-La Land - this is where the real action is in/around Hollywood as these Pac-12 rivals clash for the first time this year (they'll meet again on Feb. 18th at Pauley Pavilion) with the Uclans anxious to pile up the points. The Bruins rank second nationally with 93 ppg as Lonzo Ball (14.9 ppg) continues to stir up most of the excitement but did you know he's UCLA's fourth-leading scorer behind coach's son Bryce (17.2 ppg), TJ Leaf (16.7 ppg) and Isaac Hamilton (15 ppg). Hey, even with all this firepower take note that UCLA has failed to cover seven of its last nine league affairs!

NOTE: More Super Bowl 51 goodies all week long plus lots of Hoop News/Notes too in tomorrow's jam-packed edition of Jim Sez.
