SEAHAWKS-PATRIOTS ON SUNDAY NIGHT
NFL WEEK 10 –
ON SUNDAY NIGHT
In case you had not noticed, this has been an NFL season chock full of “Super Bowl rematches” … just check ‘em out:
Week 1 – Denver def. Carolina 21-20
Week 5 – Indianapolis def. Chicago 29-23; Atlanta def. Denver 23-16
Week 6 – New York Giants def. Baltimore 27-23
Week 8 – Oakland def. Tampa Bay 30-24 (ot)
And going forward there are other “Super Bowl rematches” including Dallas vs. Pittsburgh (right here in Week 10), Seattle at New England (see our Week 10 preview below), San Francisco at Miami (Week 12) and Indianapolis (Colts) at New York Jets (Week 13).
The bright lights are turned up high for this “Super Bowl rematch” on Sunday night as it stirs memories of a fantastic Super Bowl just two years ago … just for the record it was New England (Pick ‘Em) beating Seattle 28-24 in Super Bowl 49 and hope you remember there was a whole lot more to that game than simply the ill-fated decision to have Seahawks’ QB Russell Wilson throw on second down from the one-yard line.
On Sunday Night, it’s …
SEATTLE (5-2-1) at NEW ENGLAND (7-1) – 8:30 p.m. ET, NBC
The all-knowing Las Vegas number-crunchers have posted the NE Patriots as prohibitive 7.5-point betting favorites for this game and – you got it – this is all-of-a-sudden having a 2007 feel to it when the Pats where major betting favorites against any/all comers. No question that Patriots’ QB Tom Brady (1,319 yards passing with 12 TDs) has been razor-sharp since serving that silly four-game “DeflateGate” suspension earlier this year but a major key to success for “TB12” is whether or not the tempo offense will work against this veteran Seahawks defense. If Brady and Company can mix run-and-pass (let’s say 60 percent aerial stuff/40 percent ground attack) and at a quick pace than Seattle could get worn to a frazzle. Let’s see if recently-fined CB Richard Sherman of the ‘Hawks winds up getting a few moments covering TE Rob Gronkowski (484 yards receiving and 3 TDs so far in 2016).
On the flip side, the Seattle offense needs the aforementioned Wilson to spread the wealth – tell us right now that TE Jimmy Graham and WRs Jermaine Kearse and Doug Baldwin are gonna account for 20 receptions among ‘em and we’ll tell you Pete Carroll’s crew will have a shot at the very end.
Paging Marshawn Lynch?
Spread Notes – New England’s a haughty 7-1 ATS (against the spread) so far this season and overall the Patriots are 21-9-2 ATS at home since the start of the 2013 campaign. Seattle is a dead-even but vig-losing 4-4 against the Las Vegas prices this year; the Seahawks are 21-7-2 spreadwise as underdog sides the past four-plus seasons.
