Jim Sez Sunday NFL Previews and College Conference Notes
HERE ARE SUNDAY'S NFL PRESEASON WEEK 3 TILTS PLUS MORE COLLEGE GRIDIRON GOODIES
Let's go ahead and finish out the NFL Preseason Week 3 menu with the Three (3) games on tap for Sunday:
SAN DIEGO (1-1) at MINNESOTA (2-0) - 1 p.m. ET, Fox
Gonna get to see both QB Philip Rivers and TE Antonio Gates here for the Lightnin' Bolts after both sat it out in last Friday's 19-3 yawn-fest win against 2-point road favorite Arizona … but all eyes continue to be on second-year RB Melvin Gordon (six carries for just 18 yards last week) as he could be diff-maker as to whether SD has a winning season or not.
Current Line: Vikings (- 4.5) and 41.5 points
ARIZONA (0-2) at HOUSTON (2-0) - 4 p.m. ET, Fox
Now that 'Zona head coach Bruce Arians has been handed a clean bill of health, we're gonna get an idea how healthy his team's offense is after scoring just 13 total points in its first two preseason games. The scramble for playing time at wide receiver is real; expect WR Larry Fitzgerald to get his feet wet here with some snatches and remember no DE J.J. Watt (back) for the Texans and it's starting to look as if he's gonna miss a regular-season game or two.
Current Line: Texans (- 1) and 41.5 points
CINCINNATI (1-1) at JACKSONVILLE (0-2) - 8 p.m. ET, NBC
No NFL team has been savaged with injuries quite like these Cincy Bengals who have major concerns along the O-line these days and now there's folks scratching their heads about PK Mike Nugent who has missed three FGs so far in preseason action.
Current Line: Jaguars (- 1.5) and 43 points
The NFL Preseason Week 3 has nine games left this weekend - there are 6 tilts on Saturday, 3 more on Sunday plus the College kids have a full week/weekend ahead beginning Thursday, September 1st and going right through Labor Day. COLLEGE FOOTBALL NOTEBOOK
Our Jim Sez conference-by-conference look at this upcoming 2016 season rolls on as we check in on the Big 12 and Conference USA … make sure to check back with us all next week as we finish off our conference looks plus there will be plenty of Week 1 previews too:
THE FAVORITE - Oklahoma
The Sooners went bust (not boom) in last year's CFP Orange Bowl loss to Clemson but there's a feeling 'round Norman that this year's club is better than last year's 11-2 squad with RB Samaje Perine a real legit Heisman Trophy candidate.
THE DARK HORSE - TCU
Consider that if the Horned Frogs beat aforementioned Oklahoma in Fort Worth on the first day of October, than Gary Patterson's crew could well zoom off to an 8-and-oh start.
COACH ON THE HOT SEAT - Charlie Strong, Texas
Hey, we love the guy but save for last year's shockeroo win against Oklahoma, his 11-14 mark here is truly rotten.
GAME OF THE YEAR - Oct. 8
Oklahoma vs. Texas should be a slam-bang affair that will point both of these teams into "up" or "down" directions.
THE FAVORITE - Southern Miss
Give the slight edge here to the USM Golden Birdies over Western Kentucky/Marshall/Louisiana Tech but QB Nick Mullens (4,476 yards passing last season) has to be every bit as good as he was while winning C-USA Offensive Player of the Year.
THE DARK HORSE - Rice
Here's a secret: Owls boss David Bailiff is one of the best coaches that nobody talks about and his club should step up a pass rush that last year collected only 16 QB sacks.
GAME OF THE YEAR - Nov. 26
The Thanksgiving weekend showdown between Western Kentucky at Marshall should decide the East Division champion.
NOTE: Plenty of football comin' your way all next week here at Jim Sez … remember there are 40 on-the-board College Games slated for Labor Day Weekend (Sept. 1-thru-5), so be here for all the winners!
