Jim Sez NBA Finals Game 7 Preview
NBA FINALS: GAME 7 IS HERE AND THE WARRIORS ARE HURTIN' ...
THE BASEBALL REPORT: TRACKING THE AL EAST LEADERS THIS WEEKEND
The weekend sports menu is loaded but let's start off with the one-and-only "Game 7":
On Sunday, it's the NBA FINALS
CLEVELAND at GOLDEN STATE - Series tied 3-3; 8 p.m. ET, ABC
Go back the past 30 years in NBA Finals history and you'll discover there's only been five occasions where we've played a Game 7 - 1988, '94, 2005, 2010 and '13.
Now you want to find the last time an NBA road team won a Game 7 in the NBA Finals? Hmmm, then go all the way back to 1978 when the then-Washington Bullets bested the Seattle SuperSonics behind MVP Wes Unseld.
In all, NBA home teams are 15-3 SU (straight-up) in Game 7 tilts in this championship round and so -- surprise, surprise - the visiting Cleveland Cavaliers (a 5-point underdog at press time) have their proverbial work cut out for 'em here at Golden State.
But the Warriors are banged up: No F/C Andrew Bogut (knee) and last year's Finals MVP Andre Iguodala is gimping 'round with a balky back. Toss into the mix the notion - espoused by us here at Jim Sez a couple of weeks ago - that this Golden State team is pretty much running on fumes lately with all the games (more than a hundred played this season by a couple of dudes) and maybe the mileage logged by Stephen Curry, Klay Thompson and Draymond Green is "catching up" to the reigning champs.
On the flip side, here's a Cavaliers club that is super-confident right now following Thursday's electric 115-101 win/cover against the 2-point underdog with LeBron James fresh off his back-to-back 41-point games ... will it take another 40-plus point game by "The King" for the Cavs to land Cleveland's first pro sports title since December of 1964?
Jim Hurley and his Network of Handicappers and Bloggers will cap this 2015-16 NBA season with a bang come Sunday night as the Cleveland Cavaliers and the Golden State Warriors tangle - go online right here at www.jimhurley.com or call our exclusive toll-free telephone # of 1-800-323-4453 and get Game 7 of these NBA Finals plus cash in with all the MLB winners too!
Now, here's the Cavaliers-Warriors NBA Finals series in game chart form (all home teams are in CAPS below):
|6-2||GOLDEN ST.||- 6||Cleveland||104-89|
|6-5||GOLDEN ST||- 6||Cleveland||110-77|
|6-8||CLEVELAND||- 2||Golden St||120-90|
|6-10||Golden St||+ 2.5||CLEVELAND||108-97|
|6-13||Cleveland||+ 6||GOLDEN ST||112-97|
THE BASEBALL REPORT
Don't look now but the American League East is on its way to becoming the best division in baseball ... again!
Check out the fact that while we navigate through this exciting June weekend, the Baltimore Orioles (38-27), Boston Red Sox (37-28) and surging Toronto Blue Jays (38-31) are separated by a mere two games and the best is yet to come.
This weekend the O's - fresh off winning two-of-three at Fenway Park - are hosting a three-game series against the Blue Jays and note Buck Showalter's gang leads the league in home runs (103) and who thought journeyman Mark Trumbo would be tops on the teams with 20 dingers and 49 RBI at this stage of the season?
Hey, remember Baltimore superstar 3B/SS Manny Machado is eligible to play all weekend long after appealing his recent suspension.
Meanwhile, the aforementioned Red Sox - or is it Red Sawx? - host a three-game against the fading Seattle Mariners and did you know that Boston is the runaway leader in run differential in the junior circuit while entering weekend play (see plus 82 runs)?
No doubt John Farrell's club sports a jazzed-up and potent lineup with seven different players having scored 30-plus runs - and led by OF Mookie Betts with an amazing 60 runs scored - and check out the RBI totals and you see six players with 30-plus ribbies powered by DH David Ortiz (57 RBI in 221 at-bats) and the above-mentioned Betts (47 RBI).
However, the Sox rank just 10th in the league in team ERA (4.21) but received a major pick-me-up in the bullpen when scatter-armed RHP Clay Buchholz allowed just two hits and struck out four batters in three scoreless innings in Thursday's 5-1 loss to Baltimore.
The Boston starting staff goes with RHP Rick Porcello (7-2, 3.81 ERA) and LHP David Price (7-4, 4.52 ERA) in the Saturday/Sunday games against the M's this weekend and these hurlers have totaled zero wins in their last eight combined starts ... what's up with that?
Note: Don't miss our post-Game 7 Jim Sez column plus our NBA Mock Draft is comin' your way next week too!
