Jim Sez NBA Final Alert - Cavs Not Dead Yet
NBA FINALS ALERT - CAVS AIN'T DEAD-AND-BURIED JUST YET; ROCK-N-ROLL THEIR WAY TO 120-90 WIN IN GAME 3
Did you believe the stat that the good folks at ABC displayed late in last night's 120-90 Game 3 win by the 2-point home favorite Cleveland Cavaliers over the Golden State Warriors?
It stated that we've now had 20 NBA Playoff games decided by 25-or-more points this year (far-and-away a league record) ... now let's put that into proper perspective as we head towards Friday's Game 4 between Warriors-Cavs:
In all, there have been 82 games in this year's NBA post-season and so that means 24.4 percent - or nearly one-quarter of the games - have been major blowouts and so y'all can't be surprised to discover that NBA Playoff Betting Favorites exited last night's Game 3 tilt with a rollicking 49-31-0 ATS (against the spread) mark with two pick 'em games included in the mix ... folks, the chalk's covered better than 61 percent of the times so far this post-season (and Favorites are 3-0 ATS here in these Finals, see our accompanying chart below) and many of them have been truly lopsided affairs.
True, not good for the late-game TV ratings, of course, and not a whole lot of drama to much of these playoffs save for those epic Game 5-6-7 tilts in the Western Conference Finals between Oklahoma City and Golden State.
Hey, can't we get some of that magic here in the final two, three or four games of this series? C'mon now!

NBA FINALS - Game 3
CLEVELAND 120, GOLDEN STATE 90 - Warriors lead series 2-1
Go ahead and claim it was because the Cavaliers were "forced" to play without F Kevin Love (concussion); Feel free to believe that the so-called "smaller lineup" that included veteran F Richard Jefferson was the key to victory; But know this ... the Cleveland Cavaliers went to a resounding 8-and-oh SU (straight-up) and 7-1 ATS (including seven consecutive covers) in this year's playoffs because their effort was superior to that of a Warriors' team that may be running on fumes at times as we delve deeper into the month of June.
How else to explain Stephen Curry's rather quiet 19-point game that included just two first-half points or the fact that fellow "Splash Brother" Klay Thompson managed just 10 points on 4-of-13 FG shooting and afterwards Thompson's dad Mychal told ESPN reporter Stephen A. Smith that he didn't know "what was wrong" with either G-State superstar.
Well, all you really needed to know here is that Cleveland actually outscored Golden State by double digits in three different quarters featuring a 33-16 first quarter that played out perfectly for a Cavs club that needed a little confidence boost - LeBron James (32 points and 11 rebounds) and Kyrie Irving (30 points with 8 assists) grabbed the headlines with their stat lines - but ask us and we believe Cleveland head coach Tyronn Lue has let his team know bumping/grinding with Curry and Thompson is gonna take away their legs in these games and you start to get a sense that maybe Golden State will be the weary Warriors should this go to a Game 6 or even a Game 7.
Hey, when is the last time you saw Steve Kerr's crew shoot 42.1 percent from the floor (see 32-of-76 field goals) against anybody and when is the last time Kerr "misread" his team so badly, right?
The second-year head coach told the media afterwards he "didn't see this coming" and actually thought his club was primed for a big showing with hopes of a knockout punch.
Instead, the Warriors found themselves on the short end of one of these 25-point-or-worse playoff blowouts (a Game 3 loss last series by 28 points to the Thunder was Golden State's worst post-season defeat this year until last night's game).
Sure, you're gonna keep hearing about the city of Cleveland and that 52-year non-title drought the next couple of days but at least the folks at "The Q" left 'em smiling last night.
Just call it the "gotcha game" that Cleveland had to have.
Now, here's the Cavaliers-Warriors NBA Finals series in game chart form (all home teams are in CAPS below):
|6-2||GOLDEN ST.||- 6||Cleveland||104-89|
|6-5||GOLDEN ST||- 6||Cleveland||110-77|
|6-8||CLEVELAND||- 2||Golden St||120-90|
