The Jim Sez NBA Playoff Update
THE NBA PLAYOFF UPDATE:
WARRIORS DO "GET EVEN" WITH 118-91 WIN AGAINST OKC...PLUS A PEEK AT TONIGHT'S RAPTORS-CAVS GAME 2
If you're looking for any sweeps in this NBA playoff round - a/ka/ the conference finals - then consider the goings-on in that Toronto versus Cleveland series 'cause any wild/crazy thought that Oklahoma City was gonna "broom" defending champ Golden State is out the window!
Now, we know none of you sharp hoop fans ever thought Okie City was gonna batter G-State four straight but, following that electric 108-102 comeback win in Game 1 this past Monday night, Golden State put its foot down last night with the resounding 118-91 triumph as 9-point home favorites and it just plain got silly in the second half as MVP Steph Curry (28 points in all including 15 straight during a third-quarter run) just went bananas.
Here's some more Game 2 analyses:
WESTERN CONFERENCE FINALS
GOLDEN STATE 118, OKLAHOMA CITY 91 - Series tied 1-1; Game 3 is Sunday at 8 p.m. ET, TNT
If you had any doubt at all that the Warriors would get the between-games message from head coach Steve Kerr that they needed better ball movement and must drum up some energy off the bench, well, message received as 10 different players dished out assists and that included seven assists by F Draymond Green who helped zip the ball in/around the floor and you know that the Game 1 mishaps of quick shots, shoddy ball movement was put in the rear-view mirror quickly.
In Okie City's case, the second half was a mess - only 42 points (the exact amount of points Golden State scored in the second half of Game 1) and Billy Donovan's squad sure was hurt by allowing six GS triples that ratcheted up the Warriors' lead from 57-49 at intermission to 88-68 heading into the fourth quarter.
The Kevin Durant/Russell Westbrook tandem combined for a rather quiet 45 points but if OKC needed someone off the bench to make a statement, let's just say shooter Dion Waiters (3-of-11 FGs for 7 points) wasn't the guy!
Here's how this playoff series has gone so far between the Thunder and the Warriors (and note all home teams are in CAPS):
|5-16||Okla City||+ 7.5||GOLDEN ST||108-102|
|5-18||GOLDEN ST||- 9||Okla City||118-91|

EASTERN CONFERENCE FINALS
TORONTO at CLEVELAND - Cavaliers lead series 1-0; Game 2 is 8:35 p.m. ET, ESPN
Hey, Raptors, want a formula how not to be competitive in this best-of-seven series that resumes this evening in Cleveland?
Start off by having your star guards DeMar DeRozan and Kyle Lowry not make a single trip to the free-throw line and then get pounded badly on the glass by a near two-to-one margin (see 45-to-23) ... only way 12.5-point underdog Toronto is gonna stand in here and make this Game 2 competitive (or dare we say win) is for the DeRozan/Lowry tandem to heat up and somehow get a bit physical with both Cavaliers' PG Kyrie Irving - he's going to the hoop hard these days and without a worry in the world - and F Kevin Love.
Hey, you ain't gonna get physical with LeBron James (24 points on 11-of-13 FG shooting in Game 1) and live to talk about it and so word to the wise for DeMarre Carroll and friends - stop trying to muscle "The King" and instead simply try to get 'em off his mark.
The main goal for the Raptors here is to keep the energy level in this building low - no 22-2 runs for the Cavs, no high-flying reverse dunks by James and no three-point barrages as we said/saw in the Hawks' series.
Here's how this playoff series has gone so far between the Raptors and the Cavaliers (all home teams are in CAPS):
