And you didn't think we'd ever get here!
The NBA Conference Semifinals finally got rollin' this past Saturday night and everyone out there is wondering whether or not we're gonna get something other than the long-awaited/much-anticipated Western Conference Finals matchup pitting defending champion Golden State versus San Antonio while "the world" thinks it's gonna be Cleveland movin' on to the Eastern Conference Finals ... but are we headed for any surprises these next couple of weeks?
Hey, be patient, make sure you're getting your nightly/daily plays from Jim Hurley's Network right here online (or call 1-800-323-4453) and find out soon enough, eh!

On Monday, it's ...
ATLANTA vs. CLEVELAND - Game 1, 7 p.m. ET, TNT
Maybe one of the truly big reasons why the Cavaliers swept the abbreviated season series against the Hawks (see three games-to-none) is that Cleveland really "spread the wealth" as G Kyrie Irving (35 points back on November 21), F LeBron James (29 points on April 1) and F Kevin Love (25 points on April 11) all wound up being leading scorers for the Cavs in those tilts and the funny thing now is Atlanta needs a similar philosophy here if the Hawks are gonna make this a competitive series (as in six or seven games).
True, in that last round Atlanta F Paul Millsap registered that 45-point game against Boston in a Game 4 OT loss but if you were paying attention than you know the Hawks won both Game 5 and Game 6 of that set when they "spread the wealth" in 27- and 12-point triumphs.
Tell us right now that Millsap gets mucho help from three-point shooters Kyle Korver and Jeff Teague and this series could be a tight fit.
Here's the regular-season meetings between the Hawks and Cavaliers and note all home teams are in CAPS below:
|4-1||Cleveland||+ 2||ATLANTA||110-108 (ot)|
On Tuesday, it's ...
MIAMI at TORONTO - Game 1, 8 p.m. ET, TNT
"We The North" - whoa, that's the Toronto Raptors, folks - finally managed to win a first-round playoff series after five consecutive opening-round stumbles but Sunday night's hang-on-for-dear-life 89-84 non-cover win against 6-point underdog Indiana wasn't signed/sealed/delivered until a fatefully bad call on a DeMar DeRozan shove-off in the final minute ... shame on the zebras for that one!
Now, the East's second-seeded team and the alleged biggest threats to KO Cleveland before the Cavs figure to get to their appointed rounds in the NBA Finals must get crackerjack games from guards DeRozan and Kyle Lowry (a combined 15-of-46 FG shooting on Sunday) if they're gonna bounce born-again Miami ... and three cheers for G Goran Dragic who sliced/diced Charlotte in Game 7 en route to a 25-point game.
Memo to the Heat: Don't play ex-Raptor star Chris Bosh (blood clots) even if he's begging for court time.
Here's the regular-season meetings between the Heat and Raptors and note all home teams are in CAPS below:
|3-12||TORONTO||- 6||Miami||112-104 (ot)|
Now, how about a look at the NBA Playoffs Pointspread Standings that are absolutely complete and thru the games of May 1:
WESTERN CONFERENCE -
On Monday, it's ...
OKLAHOMA CITY at SAN ANTONIO - Spurs lead series 1-0; 9:35 p.m. ET, TNT
Did someone say "uncle"? The Oklahoma City Thunder sure looked like it gave up in Saturday's 124-92 loss in Game 1 in the Alamo City - hey, you're not gonna be very competitive when you surrender 43 points in the first quarter! - and so Game 2 is all about redemption for the 7.5-point road dogs who must start by playing some semblance of "D" after the Spurs shot a sizzling 60.7 percent (51-of-84) this past Saturday night with F LaMarcus Aldridge doing the majority of damage with 38 points.
Memo to OKC's Kevin Durant, Russell Westbrook and Enes Kantner ... gonna have to do a whole lot better than a combined 36 points on 14-of-41 FG shooting.
On Tuesday, it's ...
PORTLAND at GOLDEN STATE - Warriors lead series 1-0; 10:35 p.m. ET, TNT
Raise your hand if you think the NBA schedule-maker - a/k/a the TV networks - really shafted the Portland Trail Blazers by making 'em play Game 1 this past Sunday, some 36 hours-or-so after Terry Stotts' crew eliminated the short-handed Los Angeles Clippers.
Well, the T-Blazers can't cry about it now and so they get another crack at the "W's" here without G Steph Curry (he claims to be ready for Game 3 later in the week) - but is that really comforting when you consider fellow "Splash Brother" Klay Thompson poured in a game-high 37 points in Game 1 when Steve Kerr's club while do-it-all F Draymond Green piled up 23 points, 13 rebounds and 11 assists ... so who's gonna step up and get in Green's grill here?
