NBA PLAYOFF REPORT - HERE IS WEDNESDAY'S HOOP MENU
THE NFL DRAFT: WE ANALYZE THE TOP OTs
You won't hear the TV "talking heads" saying too much about first-round NBA playoff sweeps because mainly they don't wish to scare off any potential viewers - well, that is unless you're talking about TNT's studio analyst Charles Barkley who's already gone on record to state San Antonio will put the brooms to injury-riddled Memphis and the fact of the matter is we could see a batch of opening-round sweeperoos in the opening round of this post-season.
Heck, in Game 1's alone this past weekend we witnessed five different home betting favorites win by 20-or-more points - that's Golden State (by 26), Oklahoma City (by 38), Miami (by 32), San Antonio (by 32) and the Los Angeles Clippers (by 20)

THE NBA PLAYOFFS
Okay, so there's a trio of Game #2 tilts on this Wednesday playoff card and so let's examine what to watch:
CHARLOTTE at MIAMI - Heat leads series 1-0; 7 p.m. ET, NBA TV
Just call it what it was in Game 1 ... total annihilation!
The Heat rolled up 41 first-quarter points and never broke a sweat in that 123-91 triumph and who knew Luol Deng (31 points on 11-of-13 made FGs) had exited the "witness protection program" - if the visiting Hornets allow Miami to shot 58 percent from the floor again then it's goodnight the light!
Just a quick-hitter note here on Charlotte:
In the 2015-16 regular season, the Hornets cranked out a winning spread record on the road (see 21-20 against the odds) and so there's hope for Steve Clifford's club but G Kemba Walker may need to hang a "30" on Dwyane Wade and friends here.
DETROIT at CLEVELAND - Cavaliers lead series 1-0; 8 p.m. ET, TNT
No question the biggest story in Cleveland's sticky 106-101 non-cover win in Game 1 is that LeBron James (22 points, 11 assists, 6 rebounds) didn't have to get "mission accomplished" all by himself - but we're not just talking about Kyrie Irving's 31 points or Kevin Love's 28 points ... some timely whistles worked in Cleveland's favor.
Now we wonder will it happen again here?
The Pistons shot 50.7 percent in Game 1 and so how do you top that and still get the upset win (note Detroit's a 10.5-point dog right now for this Game 2)?
Still, worth noting that the Cavaliers were sub-.500 at home this year in regular-season play - that's 20-21 ATS (against the spread) - and already King James' squad failed to cover that Game 1 price tag.
PORTLAND at LOS ANGELS CLIPPERS - Clippers lead series 1-0; 10:30 p.m. ET, TNT
Folks were saying this figured to be the "most competitive" series in the Western Conference playoffs first round but, heck, the Clips went into it a rollicking 4-to-1 betting favorite and exited Game 1 with a 115-95 triumph as 8.5-point betting favorites (and that's the current Las Vegas price too here for Game 2).
Maybe the biggest part of the Blazers' demise in Game 1 was the fact backcourt buddies Damian Lillard and CJ McCollum combined to hit just 10-of-28 FG tries for just 30 points ... our Jim Sez preview of Game 1 said this duo had to go for at least 50-to-55 points.
If Portland wishes to cash here in Game 2, then somebody's gotta put a body on F Blake Griffin (19 points and 12 rebounds in 32 minutes) - did you realize the Clips are 6-and-oh SU (straight-up) since Griffin's returned from all his injury/suspension woes?
NFL DRAFT REPORT
Let's check out the top offensive tackles as we draw nearer to the April 28th NFL Draft in Chicago:
LAREMY TUNSIL, Ole Miss - The far-and-away top tackle in this year's draft, there had been thought a few weeks back that he might be the numero uno selection but we now know quarterbacks are mere locks to go #1-#2. Tunsil - who's listed as 6-foot-5, 310 pounds - has great feet and never appears off balance. The safe bet is he'll go with the third overall pick to San Diego.
RONNIE STANLEY, Notre Dame - At 6-feet-6, 315 pounds, this Las Vegas native sports great athleticism and he has plenty of big-time experience with 40 college starts (27 of 'em at left tackle). Has been favorably compared to recent New York Jets retiree D'Brickashaw Ferguson. Early forecast here is for Stanley to get gobbled up at the #6 pick with Baltimore although that may appear to be a slight reach.
JACK CONKLIN, Michigan State - A 6-foot-6, 310-pounder who could zip up the draft boards a bit if both Tunsil and Stanley are nabbed inside the top seven or eight picks (right now he's projected as a likely mid first-round pick). Super strong who's smart too and isn't shy about rough-housing it after a brilliant Big 10 career. Let's predict Conklin goes to Chicago at pick #11.
TAYLOR DECKER, Ohio State - Here's another former Big 10 star who figures to slide somewhere into Round I (we believe he'll go by the 20th pick overall). Decker's 6-feet-7, 310 pounds and note he started 42 games for the Buckeyes, including the last 28 at left tackle. Could see Decker nabbed by the Indianapolis Colts at pick #18.
JASON SPRIGGS, Indiana - This 6-foot-6, 302-pounder might make the leap into the late first-round status though "experts" seem to believe he'll probably be an early second-rounder based on the fact he played in a spread offense and oft times those OTs are not quite as physical as NFL teams would like. Either Jacksonville or San Francisco will have interest early in Round II.
