Jim Sez Sunday NCAA Previews

No time to waste, folks, we're gonna dig into Sunday's NCAA Tournament games but first remember that ...
Jim Hurley has all the NCAA Tournament winners right through the championship game on the night of April 4th and you can get it either right here online or at our exclusive toll-free telephone # of 1-800-323-4453 - plus don't forget we're banging out lots of winners in the other college tournies such as the NIT, CIT and CBI and there's lots of daily NBA Winners too these days.

Here's quick-hitter comments on each of Sunday's eight games in this year's NCAA Tournament Round of 32 ...

EAST REGION - At Brooklyn
#14 STEPHEN F. AUSTIN (28-5) vs. #6 NOTRE DAME (22-11)
- approximately 2:40 p.m. ET
- "Press Virginia"? Gimme a break as classy F Thomas Walkup (33 points, 8 rebounds and 4 assists) of Stephen F. Austin fame was fabulous in that 70-56 win against the Mountaineers the other night - a Jim Hurley Network Winner! - but what really impressed was the fact the Lumberjacks only committed seven turnovers. Okay, so Irish won't press/trap 'em here but is there anyone on Austin who can defend red-hot shooter V.J. Beachem who drained all seven of his FG tries for 18 points in that toughed-out 70-63 win against Michigan. Boy, did grizzly-looking coach Mike Brey's club show some guts there!

At St. Louis
#7 WISCONSIN (21-12) at #2 XAVIER (28-5)
- approximately 8:40 p.m. ET
Truth is five different teams seeded between 2-thru-5 lost on the Thursday/Friday portion of the NCAA Tournament - and it's not as if Xavier got by Weber State by the skin of its teeth. The Musketeers - who could hold offensively-challenged Wisky below 50 points in an up-tempo style game - are one of those sum-if-greater-than-the-parts teams but reserve F James Farr (18 points and 15 rebounds against Weber State in that 71-53 win/cover) does need to fill the stat sheet here if the "X" men are gonna win by a margin.

#15 MIDDLE TENNESSEE STATE (25-9) vs. #10 SYRACUSE (20-13)
- 6:10 p.m. ET
March's biggest Cinderella - the all-business MTSU Blue Raiders - didn't hoop-and-holler immediately after shocking 16.5-point betting favorite Michigan State but instead coach Kermit Davis' club kept a steely focus in post-game interviews and now you wonder if this #15 seed truly believes it is a team of destiny: If MTSU can deliver another 11-of-19 shooting game from downtown against this vaunted 'Cuse zone, it could be Sweet 16-ville for the Conference USA gang and Orange lucky it hung in there before exploding to 70-51 win against Dayton when Flyers missed a gazillion bunnies.

#13 HAWAII (28-5) vs. #5 MARYLAND (26-8)
- 7:10 p.m. ET
In case you had lost track, there were 13 lower-seeded teams that copped Thursday/Friday wins in this man's NCAA Tournament and one of 'em was Hawaii - the 50th state team snagged its first-ever tourney win but here the mission is to slow down the likes of Maryland vets Jake Layman (27 points in 79-74 non-cover victory against South Dakota State) and G Melo Trimble (19 points in 28 minutes versus SDSU) and something tells us the Warriors better play really sticky defense after holding short-handed Cal to 411 percent FG shooting the other day ... or else!

At Brooklyn
#7 IOWA (22-10) vs. #2 VILLANOVA (30-5)
- 12:10 p.m. ET
The mood swings late and then in OT in Iowa's kooky 72-70 non-cover win against Temple this Friday may have battle-tested this Big 10 team - we still don't know why the Hawkeyes fouled on that three-point shot at the end of regulation! - but now Fran McCaffery's squad must step it up from deep (see 7-of-28 triples) and F Jarrod Uthoff can't disappear for moments at a time. P.S., looks like Villanova big man Daniel Ochefu (17 points and 10 rebounds) is feeling better after some rough outings with that right ankle.

WEST REGION - At Spokane
#8 ST. JOSEPH'S (28-7) vs. #1 OREGON (29-6)
- approximately 9:40 p.m. ET
The Ducks' 39-point win in Round against overmatched Holy Cross may not have fine-tuned 'em for this game against St. Joe's who had "prayers answered" when that last-second Cincy dunk didn't count but Dana Altman's crew will do everything in its collective power to keep the ball from getting into the mitts of DeAndre Bembry (23 points in the 78-76 win against 3.5-point favorite Cincinnati) and Isaiah Miles (19 points against the Bearcats) - Oregon needs to limit this duo to no more than 20 combined FGs here.

At Oklahoma City
#10 VCU (24-10) vs. #2 OKLAHOMA (26-7)
- 5:15 p.m. ET
Round I wasn't the fastest start of a game for Oklahoma superstar G Buddy Hield but he put his Player of the Year game into overdrive en route to a 27-point, 5-rebound performance in that 82-68 non-cover triumph over Cal State Bakersfield - can we expect another fast finish here against "Havoc-light" VCU?

#11 NORTHERN IOWA (23-12) vs. #3 TEXAS A&M (27-8) - approximately 7:45 p.m. ET
Paul Jesperson's half-court bank shot that won it for Northern Iowa has now be replayed on TV some five million times - but consider that it kayoed one-half of those Lone Star State portion of the bracket and now Jesperson and the NIU Panthers would like to oust the A&M Aggies who are listed as a 6-point betting fav here and may indeed be the smart people's choice to win the NCAA Tournament's West region ... realize that Billy Kennedy's team shot 32-of-57 from the floor in Friday's 92-65 win/cover against lowly Green Bay with five dudes scoring in double figures?
