The Jim Sez Week 13 Report
THE JIM SEZ NFL WEEK 13 REPORT
GAME PREVIEWS FOR JETS-GIANTS, BRONCOS-CHARGERS & COLTS-STEELERS
It's been an unprecedented last few days in the National Football League.
No, the fact that on-field officials are blowing more calls than usual isn't real news anymore - is it? - but instead consider that each of the last three games played in the NFL have been won on the final play of those games from running back C.J. Anderson's 48-yard TD romp through the snow in Denver as the Broncos beat New England 30-24 in OT last Sunday night, to that wild blocked FG kick returned 64 yards to pay-dirt by Will Hill for a score in Baltimore's 33-27 win at Cleveland last Monday Night to this past Thursday's crazy showdown when Green Bay's Aaron Rodgers hooked up with TE Richard Rodgers on a 61-yard Hail Mary fling that helped the Packers overcome a 20-0 deficit en route to a 27-23 win in Detroit.
So, what possibly could the NFL do to top all that? They'll come up with something, right?
My handicappers and bloggers have everything all scoped out and you can get the all the best NFL Week 13 games when you check with us here at the red-hot Jim Hurley's Network - make sure you're all aboard for the week/weekend action here online or at our toll-free telephone # of 1-800-323-4453.
In NFL Week 13 play on Sunday, it's ...
NEW YORK JETS (6-5) at NEW YORK GIANTS (5-6) - 1 p.m. ET, CBS
The majority of this week's pre-game news coverage in/around New York City has centered on how do the 2-point "road" favorite Jets slow down Giants' mega-star WR Odell Beckham, Jr. without having the services of CB Darrelle Revis (concussion symptoms)?
Maybe the bigger question should be what will happen to the Giants if Beckham isn't the stat-sheet stuffer NYG believes he will be here or he does get a bunch of grabs and it still isn't enough for the "W"? After all, the Giants have found ways to blow a handful of games this year with fourth-quarter meltdowns the norm and not the exception and the Jets do have good offensive balance here with their own WR Brandon Marshall streaking into this Gotham City affair with 71 catches for 931 yards and 9 TDs. If Marshall and Jets' RB Chris Ivory (he needs a minimum of 20 carries here) can keep the chains moving against a suspect Giants' defense than "green" beats "blue" this time at MetLife Stadium.
Spread Notes - The NY Giants are a better-than-you-think 6-4-1 ATS (against the spread) so far this 2015 season and that includes covers against AFC East teams Buffalo and New England. On the flip side, the NY Jets are 5-6 against the odds in Year One of the Todd Bowles Era and note the J-E-T-S are 5-11-1 spreadwise when playing non-AFC East teams since the start of last year.
DENVER (9-2) at SAN DIEGO (3-8) - 4:05 p.m. ET, CBS
No doubt that NFL "experts" have been quick to anoint QB Brock Osweiler as the new savior of the Denver Broncos - Peyton Manning's been relegated to being "yesterday's news" now - but might this be a really tricky spot for Mr. O and his AFC West-leading Broncs?
After all, San Diego last week finally snapped a painful six-game losing skid with that 31-25 triumph at 5.5-point fav Jacksonville and Chargers' QB Philip Rivers fired four scoring strikes in that tilt and now won't be shy bucking heads with the league's top-ranked pass defense (allowing 197.1 yards a game).
If you're looking for an "X Factor" here than consider San Diego LB Manti Te'o who has been solid in recent weeks after returning from an ankle injury (see key INT last week against the Jaguars) and he could wreck the Denver ground game starring the aforementioned Mr. Anderson here.
Spread Notes - Road teams are 14-5-2 in this AFC West rivalry while dating back to the start of the 2005 season and note Denver is just 2-3-3 spreadwise this season since that 3-and-oh spread start. San Diego is 0-8 ATS in divisional games since the start of last season.
On Sunday Night, it's ...
INDIANAPOLIS (6-5) at PITTSBURGH (6-5) - 8:30 p.m. ET, NBC
All you needed to do was check the late-in-the-week Las Vegas pointspread - the Steelers are 7-point betting favorites - to know the quarterback news here: Pittsburgh's dinged-up slinger Ben Roethlisberger will play; Indianapolis QB Andrew Luck will not (missing his third game with kidney/abdomen injuries).
Still, there will be plenty of eyeballs watching Roethlisberger one week after he apparently sustained a mild concussion and stayed in the game for a late-game drive against host Seattle - yes, league officials were going batty about that one - but with all the QB talk wouldn't it be something if 40-year-old Matt Hasselbeck continued to revive his career and the Colts' season with another "W"?
Hey, Hasselbeck is 4-0 SU (straight-up) as a starter this year for Chuck Pagano's team and he's not just some silly "game manager" either as Hasselbeck threw for 315 yards and two TDs in last week's 25-12 win against Tampa Bay.
Major key in this under-the-lights tilt is Hasselbeck must get time to pick-and-choose his downfield targets as T.Y. Hilton and Donte Moncrief combined last week for 14 catches worth 209 yards and the two aerial scores - hey, we've seen enough of this Steelers' secondary this year to know than many "fantasy league" owners have had proverbial field days against the black-and-gold pass defense that ranks 28th in the league (yielding 284 yards a game).
Spread Notes - Indianapolis rides a nifty four-game pointspread winning streak into this prime-time game at Heinz Field and did you know the Colts have covered seven of their last 11 non-divisional games dating back to late last season? Pittsburgh's 14-9-1 vig-wise as hosts since late 2012.
