OUR UP-TO-THE-MINUTE NFL POINTSPREAD CHART

PLUS CARDINALS VS. RAMS PREVIEW

First things first and that means it’s our annual look at how College Football Betting Favorites fared while heading into Saturday’s annual Army-Navy game that caps off regular-season play:
Note that College Football Favs are 339-362-13 ATS (against the spread) this season and that’s good for only a .484 winning rate.
Last year at this time the College Favorites had won at a .514 clip, so the underdogs raised up a bit this time around.
Meanwhile, if you wish to take sneak peeks at the two national championship playoff games this year, then here’s some pointspread news on the four participants:

ROSE BOWL
#3 FLORIDA STATE (13-0) vs. #2 OREGON (12-1) – The underdog Seminoles are a rotten 3-10 against the odds this season and that includes a current three-game spread losing streak while the Oregon Ducks are a snazzy 9-4 versus the vig this year and that includes a current eight-game spread winning streak.

SUGAR BOWL
#4 OHIO STATE (12-1) vs. #1 ALABAMA (12-1) – The O-State Buckeyes are 8-5 spreadwise this year and note that includes a pair of outright upset wins as a 4-point dog at Michigan State and a 4-point pup against Wisconsin in last weekend’s Big 10 Championship Game. Alabama, meanwhile, is 5-7 ATS this season and just 4-5 spreadwise whenever laying a bigger-than-TD price tag.

We’ll get you some goodies on the College Bowl Games that will be played from December 20 thru December 24 (that’s 10 bowls in all, folks) in just a moment but first this key reminder:

SATURDAY, DECEMBER 20

NEW ORLEANS BOWL
Superdome – at New Orleans, LA
NEVADA (7-5) vs. UL-LAFAYETTE (8-4) – 11 a.m. ET, ESPN
This marks the fourth straight year that the UL-Lafayette Rajun’ Cajuns are playing this bowl game and they’ve won the prior three versus San Diego State, East Carolina and Tulane. Note the quick line move as Nevada went from 3-point fav to a 1-point dog.

NEW MEXICO BOWL
University Stadium – Albuquerque, NM
UTAH STATE (9-4) vs. UTEP (7-5) – 2:20 p.m. ET, ESPN
Utah State’s used six different quarterbacks this year with Kent Myers slated to start here while UTEP’s making just second bowl appearance in the past nine years. RB Aaron Jones (1,233 yards rushing and 11 TDs) is the player-to-watch dude for the Miners.

LAS VEGAS BOWL
Sam Boyd Stadium – Las Vegas, NV
UTAH (8-4) vs. COLORADO STATE (10-2) – 3:30 p.m. ET, ABC
Dave Baldwin – the offensive coordinator at Colorado State – will be the interim head coach for this bowl bash after Jim McElwain left to grab the Florida job and Baldwin says things will be "status quo" with a passing attack that ranked 8th nationally while averaging 326 yards per game. Note Utah is only "power conference" team on the bowl card till we get to the day-after-Christmas games.

FAMOUS IDAHO POTATO BOWL
Bronco Stadium – Boise, ID
WESTERN MICHIGAN (8-4) vs. AIR FORCE (9-3) – 5:45 p.m. ET, ESPN
Bounce-back year for the AF Fly Boys after last year’s 2-10 season and don’t be surprised if they chuck it more than usual whether Kale Pearson or Nate Romine starts here. Meanwhile, Western Michigan led by the youngest coach in the FBS as 34-year-old P.J. Fleck completes his second year on the job and this 2014 club registered whopping 10-2 spread mark.

CAMELLIA BOWL
Cramton Bowl – Montgomery, AL
BOWLING GREEN (7-6) vs. SOUTH ALABAMA (6-6) – 9:15 p.m. ET, ESPN
These so-called "minor bowls" often are a showcase for many of the game’s unknowns and so check out South ’Bama WR Shavarez Smith who has 50 catches and 8 TDs as Bowling Green’s tattered defense (allowed 40-plus points six times this season) could get bopped.

MONDAY, DECEMBER 22

MIAMI BEACH BOWL
Marlins Park – Miami, FL
BYU (8-4) vs. MEMPHIS (9-3) – 2 p.m. ET, ESPN
Tenth straight year that the BYU Coogs are going "bowling" and note they’ve gone 6-3 SU (straight-up) and 5-3-1 ATS in these prior nine bowls. Memphis, meanwhile, making first bowl trip since 2008 and QB Paxton Lynch is Tigers star with 2,725 passing yards with 18 TDs and just 6 INTs.

TUESDAY, DECEMBER 23

BOCA RATON BOWL
FAU Stadium – Boca Raton, FL
MARSHALL (12-1) vs. NORTHERN ILLINOIS (11-2) – 6 p.m. ET, ESPN
Two weeks ago the Marshall kids thought they had a great shot at a New Year’s Day bowl bid and so this is major letdown for QB Rakeem Cato (3,622 yards passing with 37 TDs) and friends while NIU Huskies on major run after copping another MAC Championship without last year’s Heisman Trophy runner-up QB Jordan Lynch.

POINSETTIA BOWL
Qualcomm Stadium – San Diego, CA
NAVY (6-5) at SAN DIEGO STATE (7-5) – 9:30 p.m. ET, ESPN
The Middies still have monster game against Army this weekend but this does mark sixth bowl game in seven years for underrated head coach Ken Niumatalolo – Navy is the nation’s second-best ground attack (357.8 ypg) and QB Keenan Reynolds has amazing 20 rushing scores this year but gotta say San Diego State RB Donnell Pumphrey (1,761 yards rushing and 19 TDs) is best player on the field here.

WEDNESDAY, DECEMBER 24

BAHAMAS BOWL
Thomas Robinson Stadium – Nassau, Bahamas
CENTRAL MICHIGAN (7-5) vs. WESTERN KENTUCKY (7-5) – 12 p.m. ET, ESPN
One of the new bowls on the docket and while you’re wrapping those last-minute gifts you can check out WKU’s dangerous pass attack that ranks third in the land (365 ypg) starring QB Brandon Doughty (4,344 yards passing with 44 TDs) who zinged NCAA-record 8 TD passes against aforementioned Marshall.

HAWAII BOWL
Aloha Stadium – Honolulu, HI
FRESNO STATE (6-7) vs. RICE (7-5) – 8 p.m. ET, ESPN
Annual Christmas Eve bash in the 50th state should be a real tree-lighter (Fresno State’s the 1 ½-point fav right now) but we want you to check out Rice dual-threat QB Driphus Jackson who’s thrown/rushed for a combined 2,884 yards with 22 TDs (21 of ’em passing).

On Thursday Night, it’s …
ARIZONA (10-3) at ST. LOUIS (6-7) – 8:25 p.m. ET, NFL Network
It sure seems that everyone’s trying to take the Arizona Cardinals down these days – heck, Fox’s Joe Buck said the other day during the Cards’ game against Kansas City that he didn’t think Arizona was gonna win another game and before you knew it the Redbirds had roared back from a 14-6 halftime deficit to beat the Chiefs 17-14.
Oh, well.
Now, here’s the Las Vegas oddsmakers placing the host Rams as 4-point betting favorites for this divisional duel and you’re left wondering if ’Zona here will instead give their version of "silence of the Rams"!
No doubt the Cardinals’ offense has taken some major steps backwards without out-for-the-year QB Carson Palmer as Arizona’s scored 14, 3, 8 and 17 points the past four games with QB Drew Stanton at the helm but there was a jump-start in that Week 14 win as RB Kerwynn Williams stepped up for an injured Andre Ellington and rushed for 100 yards on 19 carries.
It’s all hands on deck here for the Cardinals against a Rams team that is peaking and note the back-to-back shutouts against Oakland and Washington the past two weekends.
The long-lost sack drought ended as St. Loo’s collected 13 sacks the past two weeks with born-again DE Robert Quinn snagging 4 ½ sacks the past two weekends.
Spread Notes – Arizona has covered six-of-eight games when placed in the underdog role this year while St. Louis is zooms into this prime-time tilt on a four-game spread winning streak and the Rams but are a collective 3-7 ATS when playing fellow NFC West teams the past two seasons.
