By Jim Hurley:
In Sunday afternoon action in NFL Week 13, it's ...
ARIZONA (7-4) at PHILADELPHIA (6-5) - 1 p.m. ET, Fox
Solid matchup on this Thanksgiving weekend card but the $64,000 question is who blinks first as the visiting Cardinals have won four in a row while Philly's seeking its fourth straight win and both quarterbacks have been red-red-red hot.
If Arizona slinger Carson Palmer steers clear of the evil INT, then the point-grabbing Redbirds could do some major business here with Palmer last week completing passes to 10 different receivers with new fav target WR Michael Floyd going for seven grabs worth 104 yards in a 40-11 win against Indianapolis.
Meanwhile, Nick Foles has thrown 13 TDs with 0 INTs since getting into that starting role vacated by Eagles QB Michael Vick but here Foles faces an Arizona defense that allows just 20.3 ppg and is ranked second in rush defense to boot!
Spread Notes - Arizona is a nifty 7-4 ATS (against the spread) this season and the Cardinals are a solid 11-7-1 vig-wise as underdog sides since the start of last year. Philadelphia is 6-5 ATS thus far in the Chip Kelly Era but note the Eagles are 1-11-1 spreadwise at home since the start of the 2012 season. Yuck!
Here's a special note ...My handicappers and bloggers are very much in the holiday spirit and so we'll continue to bang out winners right through Monday Night Football with our 29th Annual Jim Hurley Turkey Shoot. Check in times on Saturday/Sunday are after 10 a.m. ET for more Turkey Shoot Winners and after 1 p.m. ET on Monday ... okay?
CINCINNATI (7-4) at SAN DIEGO (5-6) - 4:25 p.m. ET, CBS
Nobody in the Queen City needs to remind the Cincy Bengals that they've lost their last two road games ... in overtime. In fact, Marvin Lewis' squad has lost three away games this season by a combined eight points and so every single detail must be followed here if the AFC North leaders are gonna get out of sunny SoCal with a rare road win:
Look for Cincinnati to get a tad more conservative here after QB Andy Dalton threw eight INTs in his last three games and so expect more short throws and maybe even a 10-catch game from rookie TE Tyler Eifert ... you have been warned!
On the flip side the SD Chargers has allowed 30, 28, 20 and 38 points in their four games since the team's October 27th bye and basically the Bolts' coaching staff has issued a "challenge" to the defensive backs - while San Diego's offense is keeping fingers crossed that RB Ryan Mathews (hamstring) can play here.
Spread Notes - Cincinnati's 6-4-1 against the odds overall this season but did you know the Bengals have notched three consecutive spread wins in this series? Note that San Diego is 6-4-1 versus the Vegas price tags in Year One of the Mike McCoy Era but the Bolts are just 8-12 ATS in their last 20 home games.
DECEMBER DOUBLE DOG DAY
Last week I let the dogs out with my annual 3-Dog NFL Parlay andswept the board, almost winning all 3 outright as Dallas (+3.5) beat the Giants 24-21, San Diego (+4) shocked the Chiefs 41-38, and the Vikings (+4.5) battled the Packers to a 26-26tie.
Today there are 2 NFL dogs that rate just as strong, yours now for only $25
On Sunday Night, it's ...
NEW YORK GIANTS (4-7) at WASHINGTON (3-8) - 8:30 p.m. ET, NBC
Just guessing that the geniuses who make such decisions wish they would have "flexed out" of this game for either Cardinals-Eagles or Bengals-Chargers even though the TV honchos never like to wave bye-bye to "big-market teams".
The guts of this game will be all about Redskins QB Robert Griffin III who was sacked six times in last Monday's 27-6 loss versus San Francisco. The 2013 campaign has been an utter bust for RG3 and the 'Skins who somehow rank first in the NFL in rushing and still have managed - among other things - to lose all three of their divisional games this year.
P.S., quickie message to the Giants: You should never have done any trash-talking last week because now the likes of DL Jason Pierre-Paul and DB Antrel Rolle look like modern-day fools following last weekend's season-busting 24-21 home loss to Dallas.
Spread Notes - The NY Giants have failed to cover 7-of-11 pointspread verdicts this year while Washington is 3-9 ATS overall since the end of the 2012 regular season.
NOTE: Lots more in the next edition of Jim Sez including a Monday Night Football Preview/Forecast - that's the monster matchup between the New Orleans Saints at the Seattle Seahawks.
